The Album

Bullteproof Picasso was born from an idea when the band was set to move to San Francisco. They talked about jumping into a car and wanting to make sure everyone who jumped in to join them could “handle what was about to happen,” and felt bulletproof. Pat Monahan says that although the members of the band aren’t artists in the traditional sense, they do create art with their music, hence the reference to Picasso.

What Can You Expect at the Show?

In an online interview, front man Pat Monahan talked about the band’s efforts to keep things fresh for its fans. He says that the band plays what they think fans want to hear rather than sticking to a set of songs that they just play over and over again at every concert. In the past few years, their concert shows have included dance routines, costume changes, light shows and videos, and they promise some surprises for the 2015 show. Among other things, the summer’s Picasso at the Wheel tour will feature the first-ever Picasso Music, Food and Wine Festival to be held in conjunction with the last stop on the tour. Tickets are selling especially briskly for that show, and aren’t expected to last for long.

According to Train tradition, the festivities for each concert will start well before the show. As a bonus, the fans who arrive early will get the opportunity to enjoy the Patcast, which is Monahan’s weekly podcast. They’ll be able to give shout outs to friends through the classic rock DJ, and sign up for the Mermaid Costume contest. The lucky winners of that contest will have a once in a lifetime experience as they will earn the chance to be brought up on stage with the band during the show.

Monahan says that the band is also working on ways to incorporate opening acts, The Fray and Matt Nathanson, into the main show. Fans enjoy the sense of community and camaraderie that starts with the interactions of the performers on the stage, but doesn’t end there. In fact, Train concerts tend to be more like enormous house parties than typical concerts, with fans dancing and interacting with each other in the stadiums. That’s just one of the many reasons that these tickets are expected to sell out quickly. Once you’ve been to a Train concert, there is no way you would pass an opportunity to see them again.
