Runaway Sunday is a typically tasteful and pleasant album from Altan, finding the group expertly fusing Celtic and British folk with gentle, trancy pop. However, there isn't much to distinguish the album from its predecessors, and only diehard fans will be able to find the subtle differences that separate Runaway Sunday from other Altan records. And if you're able to find the differences, you're likely to cherish them.

This album is technically credited to Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh and Frankie Kennedy, but it's clearly the first step in Altan's development into a tight band. It's full of beautiful, fiery music, a little less dense and powerful than the later recordings.
