Apocalyptica Concert Tickets

Apocalyptica is a band from Helsinki, Finland consisting of three classically-trained cellists and a drummer. Their speciality is heavy metal music on cellos, though they also play classical music. They started in 1993 by playing covers of Metallica, but once the concept became popular they wrote their own original works, maintaining the thrash metal influences on their albums Inquisition Symphony (mainly covers as well) and Cult. Apocalyptica Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Sound: Apocalyptica is a band that developes with each new record. Their music sounds awesome, because they use absolutely unique technics, because they play a unique instrument (well, unique in heavy metal category), the cello. Having Ville Valo of "HIM," Lauri Ylunen of "The Rasmus," and Marta of "Die Happy" to sing and support the songs "Bittersweet," "Life Burns" and "How Far" was a brilliant idea...

Sound: Apocalyptica, the band that has blended metal and classical music so seamlessly, seems to be making an attempt to branch out to a much larger audience on its 6th release Worlds Collide. While Apocalyptica once gained attention as a novelty (a group of cellists that covered Metallica and Slayer tunes for a living), it no longer has to rely on other groups' hits...

Goto commentsLeave a commentShare String Them Along When a band makes their mark with a gimmick, it's difficult if not impossible to get past it. When Helsinki, Finland quartet Apocalyptica chose to release Plays Metallica by Four Cellos in 1996, they knew success might come with the curse of always being "that band who did those Metallica songs on cellos...

"they have proven time and time again that they can write heavy songs with complex arrangements and still kick ass...on four cellos" Once again, Apocalyptica's latest album is out in Europe months before the U.S. release. "Worlds Collide" marks their sixth studio album, and how far they have come since their first effort covering Metallica songs with four cellos...

Listen To: At The Gates Of Manala Skip It: Not Strong Enough You have to love when metal and classical fans have something in common. It's not all that rare these days with the growing neo-classical metal scene gaining a following. There are even classical-punk bands kicking around and getting recognition. But, undoubtedly, at the forefront of neo-classical alt music is Apocalyptica from Helsinki, Finland, who are back with their seventh studio album, aptly titled 7th Symphony...

Apocalyptica broke big three years ago with their streamlined hit "I'm Not Jesus"; a tune that integrated the bands classical fortunes with a rugged evil Slipknot's leader Corey Taylor often evokes from behind the mic. From then on it was a tactical game of supply and demand; lining up the best mainstream music had to offer, in regards to vocalists (and often times not the best simply the most popular) in order for all the kiddies to gobble up their faux renditions of classical thrash...

Sound: Three years have passed since Finland's stringed tour de force Apocalyptica released its previous full-length Worlds Collide, but its latest venture remains fairly consistent with its predecessor. 7th Symphony balances the band's two favorite musical genres - classical and heavy metal - and in the process proves that both can come across equally as heavy...

For several albums now, Apocalyptica has been applying their craft to song compositions that integrate their consider cello talents, rather than putting them to the forefront. 7th Symphony is no different though, as usual, several pieces are all about the cellos. Apocalyptica also continues their recent tradition of having equal amounts of instrumental and vocal songs on the album. Concerning the latter, on 7th Symphony reaches more for modern hard rock and heavy metal...

Featuring guests like Gavin Rossdale, Shinedown's Brent Smith, Dave Lombardo, Flyleaf's Lacey and Gojira's Joseph Duplantier, 7th Symphony isn't short on star power. After ho-hum tracks (Rossdale's, Smith's), Lombardo's song, 2010, is crushingly good. Beautiful, which follows, is aptly named...
