Sammi Chichester | Apr 25, 2014 | Comments 0 | Tags: Black Stone Cherry Kentucky hellraisers Black Stone Cherry soar a mile high with this fourth full-length. Raucous and honest, this album rocks with their trademark down-home stoner swagger. Unapologetically heavy swamp anthems "Bad Luck & Hard Love" and "Fiesta del Fuego" sound destined for radio play, while vocalist and lead guitarist Chris Robertson shines on the stripped-down "Sometimes" and the smooth "Peace Pipe...

Sound: Kentucky southern rock band Black Stone Cherry released their 3rd album, "Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea". The band worked with modern rock super-producer Howard Benson for the first time, and you can immediately tell that BSC are trying to break into the mainstream on this album. That being said, they haven't abandoned their southern rock sound completely. What they have done is streamline it. The first single, "White Trash Millionaire", sounds like an 80's hair metal leftover...

Sound: Being a fan of southern rock (such as Lynyrd Skynyrd), Black Stone Cherry is a breath of fresh air for those looking for "the classic" rock equation (big guitar, loud bass and drums, and a simple sound) First listening to BSC, you might suspect this is going to be another predictable try at trying to hard rock but not quite Metal, well to put it simply. This is a beautiful album...

Sound: Kentucky rockers, "Black Stone Cherry", have returned with a follow up to there 2006 success with album number two entitled "Folklore and Superstition". The overall sound of this record is much more mature than that of the first, but still very "them". This album has ballads such as "Peace Is Free" & "Things My Father Said", and whilst some people are critisising this, I like it. It shows contrast, and prooves that they have a lot more tricks up there sleeves...

This is already third album for the boys of Black Stone Cherry, nevertheless it's the first one for me. Previous 2 records got a positive score by our colleague KVK and I can only be supportive to his opinion regarding this third one. The presented mix of southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd-style and modern metal as heard by Nickelback and Alter Bridge is very close to magical. This platter will absolutely rock your socks straight off...

Black Stone Cherry could and should be the next great American rock band. Rising from a small town in a dry (no-alcohol) county of Kentucky, BSC is steeped in the rich tradition of Southern music whether it be rock, country, bluegrass or Gospel. It's not only in the soil for them, it's also in their blood. All the members of BSC come from families that passed on music and musicianship for two or more generations...
