Crowbar are pioneers of the New Orleans sludge sound, driven by doom metal and hard Southern living, and as such, they aren't immune to drama. Vocalist and guitarist Kirk Windstein, the band's only consistent member, has struggled with drinking issues throughout the band's two-decade existence and recently left Down, his longtime project with former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo, Eyehategod's Jimmy Bower (who also drummed for Crowbar at one point), and ex-Corrosion of Conformity guitarist...

Sound: This is the first album by New Orlean based Doom/Sludge Metal band Crowbar. 01. "Waiting In Silence" is a brilliant opening track and sets the tone for the rest of the album, mid to slow-paced, with a fast, almost thrash like interlude/mid section before slowing right back down. 02. "I Despise" slowly follows and doesn't really get out of third gear until the outro... But in a good way! 03...

Sound: I was just shocked to see no mention of Crowbar in the review section of this otherwise fine website so I decided to do my own review of one their best albums and hopefully introduce some of you metal heads out there to one of the truly under-appreciated metal bands of all time and in my opinion one of best and definetley one of the most unique and incomparable...

Sound: This is the third album by New Orleans Metal Band, Crowbar, and was released in 1995 following the minor success of their second, self-titled album ("Crowbar"). They toured with Pantera following that album and actually managed to release a respectable amount of units, but again, not as much as they deserved...

Despite a revolving-door of former band members, the heart and soul of New Orleans sludge pioneers Crowbar has - and always will be - Kirk Windstein. Granted, Windstein also appears in other bands: DOWN and Kingdom Of Sorrow being two of the best known; but as a founder member of Crowbar dating back to sometime in 1988, Windstein has been solely responsible for the cult status that this band now enjoys - and for good reason...

They may be slow, even modestly dilatory, but one can't say New Orleans-based sludge monsters Crowbar are the least bit apathetic. Six years after the monolithic Lifesblood for the Downtrodden seeped out of speakers like a glacier full of sharp objects, these hardcore-infused behemoths issue ninth work Sever the Wicked Hand, another excursion into demonic, genuine dirges...

Guitarist Kirk Windstein always manages to stay busy, and as of late it seems the bulk of his energy has been focused on the massively popular sludge supergroup Down, as well as Kingdom of Sorrow, his likeable band with Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta. However, for all the work he does with his various projects, the big dude with the even bigger beard will always be synonymous with Crowbar...

"Crowbar's specialty is served again and many of the songs just cut right through you to reveal your own anguish." Crowbar's album "Sever the Wicked Hand" is both classic sounding and very, very different than before. The sound is very heavy, slow, and painful, but there is also a tone of achievement. With front man Kirk Windstein's highly publicized new found sobriety, Crowbar's latest album is not just forlorn, it's victorious...

Living in the South like I do, I am ashamed that I have not heard that much Crowbar. They are from New Orleans, LA, which is about a three hour drive from where I live and is a city I love to visit whenever I can. I have only heard a small handful of Crowbar songs, and have never seen them live. It came, much to my surprise, when I got the opportunity to review Crowbars' ninth album Sever the Wicked Hand, which will be released in the US on Century Media on February 8th...
