Deitrick Haddon Concert Tickets

Born and raised in the Motor City , Haddon was another gospel child prodigy, both as minister and musician. He gave his first sermon at the church of his father, Bishop Clarence Haddon, at age 11, and was directing the choir by age 13. Haddon began his recording career in the mid 90s with the Voices of Unity on the small Tyscot label. Deitrick Haddon Reviews

We didn't think anything out of the norm upon hearing that Deitrick Haddon was creating a West Coast youth choir. After all, Haddon's early works before launching his superstar solo career were with the Voices of Unity; and their coupling resulted in hits such as "This Is The Day" and "Hold On To Your Faith". Haddon even tried his hand at mass choir efforts in the early 90s with the Detroit Sings Nu Hymnz projects (see box below for our reviews of those projects)...

A humble posture, solemn countenance and eyes concealed as he stands among strategic splashes of scarlet---to those who know about the personal and pastor-related dilemmas that Deitrick Haddon's wrestled with in the last couple of years, the CD's cover art is revealingly symbolic. It isn't everyday, after all, that a popular gospel performer with lifelong ties to the church is embroiled in multiple levels of a self-induced scandal that even ABC's Shonda Grimes couldn't have visualized...

For over 15 years, Deitrick Haddon has been one of gospel's leaders in the area of urban gospel. From his days with the Voices of Unity to his solo career, Haddon has produced countless hits that have become the soundtrack for a generation. So where else can the Detroit pastor go from here? Next stop: The Moon!! That's right, Haddon presents a 19-track concept album known as Church On The Moon, desiring to take Kingdom music to a place it's never been...

Futuristic, funkdafied and full of praise and worship: if you have a hard time connecting those adjectives with sanctified music, then perhaps you've never heard the phenomenal Deitrick Haddon. Ever since his professional debut in the 1995 with The Voices of Unity, the 37-year-old Detroit native has taken his elastic vocal range and enthusiastically-eclectic production style beyond his home church to a worldwide audience...

While Vickie Winans has been dubbed "The Hardest Working Woman In Gospel Music", the male counterpart for that moniker could EASILY be awarded to Deitrick Haddon. Since 1995, Haddon has released 10 albums, including six with his group Voices of Unity. Not a bad feat for 13 years in the business. Now Haddon returns with his fifth solo effort titled Revealed, which continues to establish Haddon as a major force within urban music...

Listening to a Deitrick Haddon CD is an experience. It can be dizzying and exhausting -- there is just so much going on -- but it is equally rewarding. His Lost and Found and Crossroads overflowed with ideas and great songs, and were among the best albums of any genre this decade. But modern urban radio doesn't often take well to layers of creativity, leaning instead toward easy-to-swallow beats and melodies that don't challenge...

I interviewed a vocalist who comes from a church background for my day job as a reporter. I had to interview her for a story I was doing on an upcoming concert. One thing she told me about the benefits of being a church musician or vocalist is that an artist who can perform gospel can pretty much sing or play anything. That statement came to my mind as I listened to Blessed & Cursed, the soundtrack to an upcoming movie that stars Deitrick Haddon...

Deitrick Haddon's previous CD's wouldn't be classified as praise and worship records. That's not to say those albums didn't include praise music. Haddon's work is certainly energetic and many of his songs fuse hip hop influenced R&B with gospel in a way that is very attractive to the young people the artist is trying to reach. However, recordings like 7 Days and Crossroads were both studio albums that featured a variety of gospel genres...

Deitrick Haddon created a very tough act to follow. His Lost and Found was perhaps the finest Gospel disc of the new Millennium. So, while I greatly looked forward to the follow-up, Crossroads, I was also secretly wondering how it could be anything but a disappointment compared to its predecessor. The good news is that it is another gem. As ambitious as Lost and Found, Crossroads moves effortlessly and effectively from Michael Jackson-like dance numbers ("God Is Good," "U.N.I.T.Y...
