Looks like this high-energy Detroit band has hit album number nine. Electric Six's style is a blend of punk, disco, and whatever sound feels tasty. Lead singer Dick Valentine blasts out nonsensical lyrics that work better as "voice as instrument" than "voice as storyteller." In other words, don't think about what he's saying too much. There's no point in slowing it down or playing it backwards -- the energy is still here, but the album is lacking hits like "American Cheese" or "Dance Commander...

Sound: The sound on this album is outstanding, the detroit rockers cetrainly live up to their name on their debut attempt at makign a record, the song titles include 'Gay Bar' and 'Naked Pictures (of your mother).' But don't be fooled, this album truly is brillant. The wrenching distorion and heavy riffs express clearly that these guys know how to play their instruments and they entertain you as much on a CD as they would live. Why bend a note, when you can break its neck? Right...

Damn, I'm excited! I never know what Dick Valentine is singing about, but it's blood pumping rock 'n' roll that is just traditional enough to sound friendly, but edgy in a "Give Me More!" way. He's playing "No Joker Poker" and eating "French Bacon" and this stuff ain't on The Wiki, but you know it's important and I'm ready to invade Libya if he asks. Title track "Heartbeats and Brainwaves" opens strong with Mr...

Electric Six has been doing this for long enough that their novelty act is long past novelty, and people have actually started to accept that under the lyrical irreverence and the chameleonic musical approach is a solid band that isn't going to disappear anytime soon. Every time Electric Six releases a new album, a crowd of people sighs, saying "what do you know, they released another album, I wonder if it sounds like 'Gay Bar'" before immediately forgetting about it...

Electric Six aren't the first band to make a career out of a couple of songs. But they are probably the most famous. And they are some of the best songs, pretty much ever. "Gay Bar" and "Danger! High Voltage" are songs that will forever plague our adolescent domestic discotheques, but we will continue to enjoy and sing along to. It's unbelievable to think that the Michigan sextet have already released 8 albums since 2003...

If this party-rock thing ever peters out for Electric Six, Dick Valentine should give motivational seminars. Businesses, public schools, whoever can afford him. He's got the booming voice for it, of course, and he knows how to deliver memorable catchphrases like, "The sun ain't the real reason vampirrrres DIE!!!!". (Not that he could use that one, per se; he'd adapt.) Picture it: A few hundred office drones crammed into a Hilton ballroom for the sole purpose of hearing Mr...

The best rock combines serious musical talent with the stoopidest sense of humour. Electric Six, therefore, is king. The Detroit outfit's hooks are unbelievable, natural and infectious, and their lyrics mirthful in a biting, irreverent way. Previously known (lamely) as The Wildbunch, they're described everywhere as disco-punk, which is insane, and have taken the U.K. by storm since the release of their EP Danger! High Voltage. Why...

Shiny shoes and a white polyester suit won't be enough to get you on this flashing dance floor, but if you're really nice to the bouncer... Well, we'll see what we can do. Detroit's Electric Six has rehydrated, regrouped, and released a new collection of high-energy songs about nothing in particular, but capable of bringing you to a sweat even if you're stuck in traffic...
