Envy On The Coast have returned with their sophomore album "Lowcountry" their much anticipated follow up to 2007's "Lucy Gray" and what Envy On The Coast have here is an album that's as moody as it is energetic and at times brilliant. Opening song 'Death March on Two, Ready?' sets the mood; it offers a Southern vibe with a distinct guitar twang, but they show a talent for variety with 'Head First In The River' which has an absolutely huge chorus...

"Who makes all these rules and traditions and statutes that people who are different have to stay away from people who are normal?" The following is an excerpt from "The Twilight Zone" that Envy On The Coast used at the beginning of "Southern Comfort," a song off the band's newest release, Lowcountry. Sometimes, lyrics can describe an album better than any writer can. Suffice to say, Lowcountry is not normal. And in today's scene, variety is appreciated...

During the writing phase, drummer Dan Gluszak was fired from the band and singer Ryan Hunter took recording duties behind the kit...

Sound: This album is ultimately emo but is techinically alternative rock, with essences of piano-rock and is reminciscient of Secondhand Serenade. It is the debut album from Envy On the Coast, released on August 7th 2007 and features members from As Tall As Lions and Circa Survive which can account for the similarity in sound. So in terms of similarity to other bands they can be compared to Circa Survive, Secondhand Serenade and The Spill Canva...

At first glance, these eager Long Island newcomers seem like just another forgettable mainstream emo act, complete with Castro-style military caps and ridiculously overwrought song titles. Thankfully, on this rousing debut, they break away from the Warped Tour pack wit heady prog-rock arrangements and weighty lyrics that aren't exclusively about singer Ryan Hunter's last evil girlfriend...
