Gavin Degraw Reviews

Make A Move A few hours earlier DeGraw is in fine form as he chats about his new album, working with different songwriters and his appearance on Dancing With The Stars, where he debuted with a less than impressive tango; "whatever the f**k that is" he jokes. DeGraw is on a flying visit to the UK and as we chat his drummer arrives in the room having just woken up - as the jet lag takes its toll. DeGraw is here to chat about Make A Move, his fifth album and second in as many years...

Live albums have always been a difficult thing. Apart from the odd exception (Neil Young?s Weld or U2?s Under a Blood Red Sky for example) they never fully capture the mood and atmosphere of a concert and more often than not they are a treat for loyal fans only. It is probably wise therefore that American singer Gavin DeGraw says he wanted to give his fans a thank you for supporting him on his US tour and the aim of this album seems to be purely that...

Sound: Gavin's music was very relaxing and it sounds like he took his vocal chords and poured it onto the CD. I'm impressed with this because I know that he is very talented and I didn't expect the cd to be this good especally listing to the acostic version. His style is unique and kind of classy. His voice is amazing! // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics were impressive. They actually made sense (most of the time)...

Sound: I can tell that this soul/jazzy pop rock singer songwriter has ways with the melodies. I had never listen to such interesting music in my life. I can tell that this guy can be compared to soul/pop songwriter Daniel Powter too but from this recording, the sounds so unique and seems very ordinary of a man behind the piano. // 9 Lyrics and Singing: The Lyrical content of this album is just astounding. Definitely a skilled songwriter...

American singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw is most widely known in the UK for his signature single, I Don't Want To Be, which was used as the theme song for popular American teen-angst show, One Tree Hill. It may not be something that many artists would want to be known for, but it did give DeGraw's 2003 debut album, Chariot, much needed exposure...

Summary: I don't want to be anything other than me! 6 of 6 thought this review was well written In an ideal world, the mechanics of reviewing an album are as simple and elegant as the act of listening to that album itself: press "Play", the CD starts to spin, and slightly over an hour later one has a rough visualization of where that album might lie on a one-to-five rating scale...

What initially seems disappointing on American smooth-operator Gavin DeGraw's fourth LP, Sweeter, is the typical "I-love-you-and-we-belong-together" motto he sticks with since his tuneful debut Chariot dropped back in 2004. But Sweeter, in all its familiarity, has more to offer...

DeGraw returns with his much-anticipated eponymous sophomore album and proves he can still crank out hooks as radio-friendly as his breakthrough 2004 hit I Don't Want to Be, from his still-stunning debut album Chariots. Except this album is no Chariots and DeGraw comes off sounding too much like Wide Mouth Mason, which is never a good thing...

I accidentally discovered the next great rock star last week. I was watching The View when 25-year-old, New York-based pianist Gavin DeGraw blew me away with an acoustic version of I Don't Want to Be, a hooky, catchy-as-all-hell rock anthem that's amplified with a full band on this, DeGraw's debut album. The song is so addictive I still can't stop listening to it over and over...
