Gov't Mule Concert Tickets

Gov't Mule is a southern rock/jam band formed in 1994 as a side project to The Allman Brothers Band, but has taken on a life of its own. Like many jam bands, Gov't Mule does not get much radio airplay but is popular due to constant touring and intense fan loyalty. When the Allman Brothers Band reformed in 1989 in response to the popularity of the Dreams box set, Warren Haynes was added on lead guitar and Allen Woody on bass. Gov't Mule Reviews

You can't pigeonhole Gov't Mule. Here's a band rooted in southern rock that made themselves a permanent home on the jam-band circuit. They're signed to Blue Note, a legendary jazz label. They're equally comfortable interpreting Eric Clapton as they are Eric Dolphy. Their live shows are chock full of tidbits of familiar melodies splashed through the setlist in a most Pollock-esque manner, designed to be both nods to the knowing and prods to the ignorant ... a fine example of musician's musicians...

Breaking four years ofrecording silence with analbum full of special guestsisn't a recommended careermove. But Gov't Mule have, not for the first time, confounded critics, hereoffering 11 new tracksrecorded firstly as a band andthen again with a differentguest singer on each. The matching of singersto tracks is superb...

Gov't Mule's Shout!, their first album of new studio material in four years, marks the band's debut for Blue Note. Warren Haynes composed five of these 11 tracks; his bandmates collaborated with him on the rest. Permanent bassist Jorgen Carlsson and keyboardist Danny Louis fit seamlessly with Haynes and drummer Matt Abts, adding new grooves and sonic textures. The production ante has been upped considerably, without sacrificing GM's forceful attack...

The Warren Haynes fronted quartet's first studio album in four years and its Blue Note label debut is a typically gritty eleven song set of gutsy Southern blues rock. Those familiar with the group will be thrilled to know that this is another strong entry into a nine album catalog that quietly began in 1995. Despite the untimely death of original bassist Allen Woody, Mule hasn't had many disappointing musical moments even as it has morphed into a foursome over the years...

For the past 25 years, Warren Haynes has been a one-man classic rock saviour, using his massive guitar chops to bring the Allman Brothers Band back to prominence while keeping the dreams of Deadheads alive by admirably filling in for the late Jerry Garcia. What's often overlooked is Haynes's work with his ongoing project, Gov't Mule, a group now nearly two decades old...

?????????? Gov't Mule has never made a record that sounded more like a Warren Haynes solo album than it previous studio work, By A Thread. In contrast, the band's debut on Blue Note Records, Shout!, is a seamless piece reminiscent of their best work on stage and in the studio. In fact, The Mule almost deliberately begs for such comparisons with guitar figures the likes of which acts as a refrain for "World Boss...

It's been four years since Gov't Mule's last studio album, By A Thread , and in the interim, Warren Haynes' rich songwriting has only grown more eclectic. There's a loose, exploratory vibe throughout Shout!, the band's tenth studio album, showcasing every facet of the Mule sound--along with some new wrinkles that you'd never expect. The quartet's chops remain as striking as ever, with Danny Louis' Hammond B3 firing sparks off Jorgen Carlsson's bass...

You can imagine the mirth around the dinner table of some swank New York eatery as Dr John, Elvis Costello, Steve Winwood and their Gov't Mule compadres sit down for a feast. Then one of the latter confuses suckling pig for squealing like a pig. It's all in the enunciation l guess. Except this shows the pulling power of these boys from the byways and highways of Deep South USA and that they can convince some pillars of music to join them for a ride...

Warren Haynes' Gov't Mule exemplified the US jam band phenomenon rife in the mid- 90s and proved so popular that the guitarist left The Allman Brothers two years after this 1995 debut to concentrate on it full-time. The attraction of improvising jam bands has always been best experienced live, which makes this first helping of Mule more of an appetiser than a main course...
