J&R; Adventures Joe Bonamassa's Driving Towards Daylight is the 30-something Upstate New York native's return to his birthright Delta blues sound. But guitar virtuoso Bonamassa and his hand-selected session players, including Aerosmith's Brad Whitford and drummer Anton Fig, aren't anyone's imitators. Listen to the almost pugnacious take on Howlin' Wolf's "Who's Been Talking...

Perception always serves up a slice of skepticism for a record that contains more renditions of other artist's songs than actual original tracks. Creativity? Originality? Individuality? All are characteristics that come into question when taking this approach to an album's creation...

Joe Bonamassa is not only the hardest working man in rock but I cannot think of anyone else out there who is constantly challenging himself and his style and still coming up with the goods. This is imperious stuff. The album is quite a departure from his previous solo albums in that he has surrounded himself with excellent musicians that are stars in their own right and used their talents to produce a harder edged sound but still one that is clearly ?Joe B?...

Sound: For the last few years I have asked myself how he does it? How does Joe Bonamassa release album after album of quality material? Just like his other albums, this album has a certain feel and vibe about it to the extent that any track taken from another album would sound out of place. He says it himself in the booklet you get with the album; "This album is a return to my roots, but an exploration at the same time" - this of which I agree...

Sound: Dust Bowl is a solid effort from Joe Bonamassa ranging in sound from country blues to overdriven blues-rock. The guitar work is solid throughout and phenomenal on several occasions. At times the solos brought goose bumps up on my arms, and emotion is almost dripping out of the speakers. While very well produced, the album has almost a live feel to it (in a good way) and I felt like I was in a really awesome blues club while listening to the album...

Blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa was known to many music fans over the years, but a 2009 sold-out show at London's Royal Albert Hall - featuring Eric Clapton - definitely put him into another sphere of acclaim. And so it is with Dust Bowl that Bonamassa sounds like a great axe man with a set of pipes that are vintage Paul Rodgers. This is especially evident on the lean, solo-friendly "Slow Train" which would probably come across amazingly in a live setting...

A new Joe Bonamassa album is an annual event but somehow he continues to develop, improve and deliver some of the finest Blues/Rock on the planet. Album after album he has gotten better and more confident of his skills and his partnership with Kevin Shirley (his producer) has been a massive success. So, is 'Dust Bowl' any good? I am going to go out on a limb and say that there are some moment in this album that are as good as anything he has ever done and maybe even better...

Seemingly in an organic, wildfire-spreading way, New York singer/guitarist Joe Bonamassa has become a hugely popular artist, particularly in the UK. Paul Jones has given him generous exposure on his Radio 2 show, a fact acknowledged from the stage of London's Royal Albert Hall. Then Jones steps up to blow hard harmonica through Your Funeral My Trial. There's also the matter of another major guest player: joins Bonamassa for an axe-duel during Further on Up the Road...
