Like most of the albums Kid Rock has made since the turn of the century, Rebel Soul, his ninth, doesn't snugly fit into just one genre. It's a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll, and even a little bit hip-hop on one track. And it's a whole lot of uneven songs crammed into an overlong album that tries hard to please the fickle country/rock-'n'-roll/hip-hop audience--but not too hard, because that's not Kid Rock's style...

Whatever one might say about Kid Rock, you can't say he isn't dedicated: to repping his beloved hometown Detroit, to acknowledging his own musical heroes -- from Seger to Aerosmith to Run DMC -- to recognizing the power of a good time, however that might be defined for the listener. (For him it apparently includes lots of wine.) Rock's been doing all that since his '90s breakthrough, but it's been a long time since he's sounded like he's having as much fun doing it as he does on "Rebel Soul...

A sprawling disc of storytelling, pop history and partying, Kid Rock's ninth studio album seeks the grooves and reach of classic soul - with a Detroit bull-god spin, of course. Self-produced in Michigan with his colorful Twisted Brown Trucker Band, this ruggedly consistent and robustly sung music jumps genres and makes statements. Soul, according to Kid Rock, does what it wants...

Kid Rock's music qualifies as Southern boogie the same way that Cracker Barrel qualifies as a "down-home" establishment: all of the gimmickry, none of the soul. As on 2010's Born Free, the Detroit-born rap n' roller continues to jettison hip-hop postures in favor of straight-ahead rock. The result, Rebel Soul, befits an election year. It's a very safe affair, full of platitudes and conspicuous all-American gestures...

Sound: Rock N Roll Jesus starts off with the title track, something never done before on a Kid Rock album. The song kicks off the album well though with the loud drums and the hard rocking guitar riff with the wah-wah driving lead. Like previous efforts released after the History of Rock, Kid Rock continues to abandone and step away from the rap genre and focus more on the rock n roll and country side...

Sound: Kid Rock is one of the most infamous and overlooked artists of all time. Much other white artists out of Detroit such as ICP, people have heard one song by him and judged immediately. If you ask anyone nowadays to name a song by Kid Rock they would either say "Cowboy" or "Bawitdaba." This proves most people haven't really looked into the talent of this performer. Kid Rock never got the respect that he deserves, and where I live, he is pretty much treated like crap...

Sound: In the music world, it becomes immediately obvious if an artist is a triple threat of sorts -- excelling in writing, recording, and live performance. There are plenty of singers who rely on all the gadgets in the studio to improve the quality of their music, and when those individuals hit the stage you can feel the unpolished awkwardness exude from their stage show...

Sound: Age often opens up a certain side of musicians. Not one that's particularly surprising, but more human, as an artist tends to put a more natural side of them on display. Sometimes it's due to a change in lifestyle and that could be said for Robert James Ritchie a.k.a. Kid Rock. Having set standards for mainstream hits in the late 90s' with hazardous yet catchy hooks, the soon to be 40-year-old is a now an American roots musician focused on penning a reflection of the times...

Sound: Kid Rock, famous as white-trash rapper/rocker trying to refashion himself as modern day rocker. With abandoning metal and hip-hop, he seized this opportunity to become a full-out rocker and outlaw country singer with his 2003's album -- "Kid Rock". // 10 Lyrics and Singing: Many of Kid's signatures are still in place ? the bragging, the boasting, the songs about sex, fame, and rock & roll, the hard riffs, the self-mythology ...
