Stick around long enough and you'll eventually become a classic band, no matter how niche the genre in which you operate. German thrash metallers Kreator have been making the most of their elder-statesmen status for at least a decade now. Formed in the 80s, underachieving in the 90s, and returned with awe-inspiring dedication in the 00s, the Essen group continue to deliver music that's approximately eight times faster and heavier than most of their younger contemporaries on the Eurothrash scene.

Sound: Kreator took a slightly more progressive approach with "Phantom Antichrist". It stands out from their other albums because of that, but it still has that classic Kreator sound. Everything is mixed perfectly, the vocals, drums, bass and guitars all come out clear and sound great. The guitar is at its all time best in this album as well. Although they might not be flashy, the solos are melodic and fit it in with each song perfectly...

"The maligned thrash revival and bastardization of the genre with "modern thrash" certainly could use the guidance and wisdom of this tried and true German great." In the midst of an epic evolution of the dueling subgenres of modern thrash, old school thrash, thrash revival, and post thrash/groove metal, it is easy to lose sight of the style's origins...

It's like this: Kreator are amazing. The German thrash band are on album 13 and they just get better and better. Back on album number ten, the band suddenly had a late game energy burst and they've been going strong ever since. Here, they get even better by streamlining a bit (nine songs in 45 minutes), and in doing so taking away all I could ever really complain about ? the long running time ? with their albums...

Sound: "Terrible Certainty" is the third album by thrash metal legends Kreator, released in 1987. In comparison with the death metal oriented style of their previous album, "Pleasure To Kill", the band moved more towards insane thrash metal aggression on this album, a change that would remain present on albums like "Extreme Aggression" and "Coma Of Souls". Riffs are just insane and faster than the speed of light. Solos are also hell breaking loose, full of whammy bar craziness and shredding...

Sound: Kreator is probably one of the most brutal thrash bands out there. This album is a lesson in thrash and probably Kreator's best album after the return to their thrash period. This album sounds like the good old late '80s Kreator with more melodic heavier riffs and a little acoustic guitar mixed in. Mille Petrozza is a genious songwriter, so you know the riffs are great. The production is alot better then other Kreator albums too...

Sound: Extreme Aggression would be the album where Kreator finally found then success they deserve, the album got a distribution deal in the US through CBS/Epic. The production is cleaner and more streamlined than the previous albums. Sadly though, Extreme Aggression is less memorable than the Endless Pain, Pleasure to Kill, Terrible Certainty and Coma of Souls...

Sound: There's been a lot of talk about Metallica's return to form with Death Magnetic, but they aren't the only metal veterans that continue to keep old school thrash alive. Germany's Kreator might not have received the same success in terms of record sales that their counterparts in Metallica have over the years, but in many ways Kreator is delivering a much purer and gutsier version of the sound that originally made them a household name...

"All in all, it's a thrash metal album, and fans who don't want the band to lose that side of themselves will be happy the band hasn't experimented with their sound too much, like they infamously did in the nineties." German thrash metal legends Kreator have been on somewhat of a roll since 2001's "Violent Revolution" album, which saw them return to their thrash metal roots...
