Leo Kottke Concert Tickets

Leo Kottke (born September 11, 1945 in Athens, Georgia) is a legendary acoustic guitar virtuoso who has developed a cult following of fellow guitarists and fans over the span of a 30-year career of recording and performing. Blending folk, jazz, and blues influences into a signature finger-picked style of syncopated, polyphonic music, Kottke's work pre-dated and predicted much of the New Age instrumental music movement, and is often considered part of the American Primitivism movement, partly because he was signed to John Fahey's Takoma Records label. Leo Kottke Reviews

With the 1969 release of 6-And 12 String Guitar, Leo Kottke established his pre-eminence as a guitar virtuoso and composer of quirky, pop-inflected pieces. Harmonically adventurous and technically dazzling, this album showcases Kottke`s penchant for infusing traditional elements of folk guitar with more modern, even impressionistic harmony and tonality. Kottke inspired a revolution in acoustic guitar playing, and this record provided the opening volley...

Put plain andsimple, guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke is a national treasure. Thiscomprehensive collection, The Leo Kottke Anthology, gives a great overview of the first twodecades of the recording career of a dazzling instrumentalistwith a you-grow-to-love-it voice whose commitment to his craftjump-started a reappreciation of American acoustic music. Leo Kottke is a low-keyed Minnesota artist. He doesn't wear make-up, has no banks of amplifiers, doesn't sing too well and doesn't even have long hair. His main asset is a glycerin set of fingers. When you're snowed in from Halloween to Mother's Day you've got to amuse yourself somehow. After repeatedly freezing his lips on the mouthpiece of his trombone, Leo switched to guitar...

Since the release of his brilliant Takoma album. Leo Kottke has gone through a few changes: become a father (good for the ego), had his guitars stolen (not too good for the ego), and signed with a major record company (possibly good for the ego, depending upon your point of view). Now with the release of Mudlark the listener is treated to the recorded debut of Kottke's lyrics and his infamous geese farts...

With all the shit that has been released recently, it was a distinct pleasure to come across this album. No doubt you won't be able to find it in your local record store, but any hardships you must endure to obtain a copy are well worth the pure enjoyment this album provides. If all else fails, write directly to Takoma Records, P.O. Box 5403, Santa Monica, Ca 90405.Kottke isn't a new addition to the Page-Beck school of grating, hypertensive guitarists, as if you were expecting that...

As the title would suggest, Leo Kottke's Try And Stop Me is a confident statement from the almost sixty-year-old finger-picking extraordinaire. On the heels of his acclaimed 2002 collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, Clone, Kottke assembles here another package of mesmerizing guitar work...

Out of the major Takoma triumvirate of John Fahey, Robbie Basho and Leo Kottke, it is the latter who probably had the most mainstream appeal, but definitely the least hipster cred. Probably due to his early and sudden career switch from an amazing virtuoso instrumentalist to a rather mediocre singer/songwriter. But it's this debut recording of solo guitar work from 1969 of which listeners should take notice...

Super lovely acoustic guitar twangy figerpicking. Just perfect! A new recording from Kottke, and his first all-instrumental all-guitar album since his legendary 6 & 12 String Guitar debut 30 or so years ago!
