Chip Davis must be stopped at all costs! His new age Mannheim Steamroller project has been repeatedly allowed into unsuspecting studios to deliver clavinet and triangle-drenched Christmas albums at an alarming rate. Six albums and counting, this time with Lazarus-style resurrection vocal enhancements from the likes of Johnny Mathis and Olivia Newton-John. The only saving grace is the surprising omission of what would have been a truly diabolical duet.

If you wondered what it'd feel like to be brainwashed for the holidays, check out the fourth Xmas album, The Christmas Angel ? A Family Story from Moog-hugger Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller. His incoherent attempt at a New Age Nutcracker sandwiches excerpts from an original narrative poem between mock-ELP synth jigs that recycle old Mannheim mush...

HERE'S AN inspirational holiday story for the kids: How the Gramaphone Stole Christmas. It's the tale of Omaha-based entrepreneur Chip Davis (once best known for cowriting C.W. McCall's '75 smash, ''Convoy''), who built a fabulously successful indie label, American Gramaphone, largely on the phenomena of five million-selling Christmas albums recorded by his proto -- New Age flagship ensemble, Mannheim Steamroller...

A harbinger of the new age movement, Mannheim Steamroller's debut is a unique mix of light classical piano music, progressive rock, and medieval songs. Composer Chip Davis breaks the album into 12 semi-classical structures (sonatas, interludes, even a disguised passacaglia) that match up to the seasons, rendering Fresh Aire a concept album about nature and life...

Growing out of an attempt to bring positive awareness to the natural cycles and outstanding beauty of Yellowstone National Park, Chip Davis's inspiration for this album began with his visit there last Fall. Four classical compositions, by Respighi, Grofe, Debussy, and Vivaldi, are given full orchestral treatment. Mixed with several classic Steamroller pieces and assorted nature sounds, this release has a Fantasia-like dramatic presence of symphonic grandeur...

This album served as the soundtrack for a PBS special that focused on endangered species around the world. Call it the Carnival of Animals with a social conscience, Saving the Wildlife is a modern musical bestiary from Mannheim Steamroller. Chip Davis combines the character of the animals with their environment, using two percussionists to evoke landscapes like Africa and the Orient. The poor ol' U.S...

This is a rehash of the medieval themes and romantic piano pieces found on the first Fresh Aire. Fresh Aire II gets the nod over the debut by separating the two styles rather than alternating them; the side-long "Fantasia" consists of variations on a stirring medieval theme, not as fertile as Rick Wakeman or Camel's The Snow Goose perhaps, but not far off the mark either...

Longtime holiday favorite Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas Extraordinaire is yet another holiday collection by the group. It's not much of departure from Mannheim's other holiday collections. If anything, it aims to resurrect the spirit of preceding holiday releases by Mannheim. There's a good chance if you enjoy other Mannheim holiday albums you'll enjoy this one. It's not one of the group's more noteworthy releases, but it should please Mannheim's devoted following...

Recorded live at over six venues on their latest tour, the group presents a balance of contemporary favorites, international Christmas standards and traditional religious hymns...
