Modest Mouse Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Sound: Right from the beginning the sound is somewhat darker, gloomier then other modest cd's. The haunting guitar riff from "Night on the Sun" matches up well with "Willful Suspension of Disbelief" and "The Air". "3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monster" seems to be something straight out of Lonesome Crowded West with it's rickety western sound and Isaac Brock's somber vocals. The standout track is completely different from what a usual Modest Mouse fan would expect...

Sound: "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" marked a major departure from the sound of Modest Mouse's earlier. Gone are the lengthy eight minute, spacy songs found on "The Lonesome Crowded West." Isaac Brock, leader of the group, has defintely moved towards a more mainstream sound; they've even scored a top 40 hit with "Float On." The album is an incredible blend of many different types of sounds...

Sound: It's incredible. I am a tagger, and I listen to a lot of rap, but no rap, or any other type of music, can compare with this album. The depth and meaning, the fealing, it is all there. They use tons of instruments, and they blend together in one melancholy, vibrant, or just plain cool sound. I love it. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: This is the important part. The lyrics are the most intense things I have ever heard in my life. Some of the things they say are just so real...

Sound: This was my secound MM album after Good News, and I had no idea what I was getting into. Listening to the opening riff of "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" got me hooked instantly. What highly impressed me with the sound of this album was the distant sound away from "mainstream" and how different they sound that you can't even compare them. Most of the songs on this album are long but its definatly worth listening to. The guitar parts are mostly grinding octaves and aome bendy harmonics...

Sound: Modest Mouse is deffinently an important band. Most of their albums are full of stuff most indie bands dream of having in just one song. Now, with the realease of the band's very first album, you can learn what they sounded like when they were still in high school. Probably their most raw album, SSS is what most people would call "horrible." That's why it's known to be for hardcore fans. I am one of them, and I found this album quite good...

Sound: If you're among the millions that heard Modest Mouse's single from the last album "Float On" and enjoyed it, then you will likely relish what you hear on the band's latest CD, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. The record follows a bit of the same formula as "Float On," taking what seem like straightforward songs and transforming them into something quite unique with various vocal styles and backup instrumentation...

Not much chance there's another "Float On" here to goose sales, but just because novelties are always unlikely, but because "Float On" found Isaac Brock in an atypically live-and-let-live mood. Usually he's more fuck-me, let's-get-lost, or oh-shit-not-again. So one candidate, the instantly hooky "We Know Everything," tops its "we know we know" backup with a "Left you dying on the floor" finale; another, "Steam Engenius," tosses in some woo-hoos on its way to "Stasis is what you got...

Modest Mouse's first proper album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (1996), gained the band a steady cult following right out of the gate, and rightly so. The album, made when frontman Isaac Brock was only 21 years old, contains some of the band's finest songs: "Dramamine", "Breakthrough", "Custom Concern", "Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset", "Ohio"...

Modest Mouse's latest album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank displays an awesome sense of progression in style and lyrical content in comparison to Modest Mouse's past albums. Each of the album's 14 tracks has a catchy rythm accompanied by lyrics reminiscent of the Acceptance stage of depression (Trademark Modest Mouse style)...
