Nickelback Reviews

Let's address the title before we discuss anything else. Other than it obviously being incredibly generous, this is an example of false advertising in contemporary rock music at its worst. First off, every single song on this compilation is naturally a hit single from the band. Furthermore, the majority of this is comprised of all and only the most popular singles from their best selling/highest charting album ; with even singles from their most recent effort overlooked, and songs from their...

by Sarah Occhino A very enthused crowd packed out Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Tuesday the 27th of November when Nickelback performed an alcohol fuelled set, supported by hard rock duo Jackson Firebird. Hailed from Mildura, there was almost something comical about Jackson Firebird. They were a clich? in every sense of the words, 80?s rock and roll, except for the fact that they aren?t your traditional four-piece band...

Let's put any Nickelback hate aside (after all, that is so pre-2010). Sure, they might've written similar sounding songs and tapped into the fountain of commercial hits for their entire career so far - and will probably never produce a 10/10 album in their lifetime - but is their seventh effort, Here and Now, decent at the very least? Yes. Stylistically, Here and Now is much closer to 2000's The State and 2001's Silver Side Up, arguably Nickelback's best albums...

Impression: Recently re-released debut album from high-octane rockers hasn't had a lot of coverage (much like their second album 'The State') It's hard to find people who even know it exists, let alone who own it. This is a real shame, since in many ways it is the best of their 3. The vocal ranges in tracks like 'Where' and classic riffs as seen in 'Curb' just aren't seen in Silver Side Up...

Sound: Over the past several album releases, Nickelback has become the band that everyone loves to hate. Maybe that reputation is deserved for their songwriting which is almost a caricature of formulaic songwriting, or possibly even for the repetitive lyrical themes: sex, strippers and drinking. I'll admit that I was definitely in that category of music listeners who looked at Nickelback with almost disgust, but I've been trying to listen to "Here And Now" with fresh ears...

Sound: This is definitely the most heavy stuff Nickelback have come out with, they now have a more classic rock sort of feel to them, rather than their usual alternative sound. Songs like Animal, Fight For All The Wrong Reasons, and Far Away are really heavy, with less acoustic guitar and more heavy riffs than you would expect from these guys. In saying that, I rather like it, it's a real change for them...

Sound: This is the albums only downfall and it isn't really the whole music itself it's just really the guitar work. The guitar work doesn't sound very good at all in most songs. However this is made up for by Chad Kroegers voice which is at its best on this album. // 8 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics as always with Nickelback are great and give life to the album. They also help to over shadow the questionable guitar work...

Sound: Now this is the reason that Nickelback are my favourite band! And now, allow me to take you through the album, one amazing song at a time. 01. Never Again - a mind-blowing introduction to the album, that has one of the roughest riffs on the album, and succeeds to maintain it's edge. Along with Chad Kroegers course voice, it makes for a great song! 02. How You Remind Me - we will never forget this one! This is the song that the whole album orientates around...

Sound: Few bands consistently deliver meat 'n potatoes rock that's fit for hard-nosed truckers hauling cargo through the cornfields of America as well as strippers who like to shake what the good Lord gave 'em while swinging around a stainless steel pole! Nickelback have universal appeal to all the regular Joes and Janes that populate the United States, thanks to the simple but effective use of geetars and power chords...
