Nonpointâ??s Miracle has had me sitting on the fence for the past week. Iâ??ve listened and re-listened to it numerous times, in an attempt to give it the best possible assessment. You see, Miracle possesses quality moments of fist-pumping and head-bopping infectious metal, but it also features many distinctively average and tedious sections. It has been a bit of a conundrum to review...

Since their debut album Statement hit stores in 2000, Nonpoint has been a veritable institution in the hard rock scene. However, they've been a small institution, never quite able to break into the mainstream and achieve huge success. Part of the reason may be because they were one of the last bands to jump on the nü-metal train, and while they've slowly evolved away from the much-maligned subgenre, their origins have held back their career in the long term...

Sound: This is Nonpoint's third major release. It shows their diversity very well. Nonpoint doesn't sacrafice melodiousness for the sake of being heavy, nor the opposite. The guitar is insanely original and well played. Andy Goldman is the perfect guitarist to compliment the rest of the band's sound. Everything fits together perfectly, and Andy never ceases to amaze me with his harmonics. He'll throw them in anywhere, and he is one of the only people who can make that style sound good...

Sound: Nonpoint's "To The Pain" is a punch to the face, but in a good way. Unrelenting heaviness and a great sense of melody, along with brilliant instrumental work really make this album shine through the darkness provided by some similar acts. Their spanish influence provides a spark of creativness as well, as lead vocalist Elias will sing and scream in Spanish as in the song "Buscandome" where he chants "Yo soy, lo que soy, no me voy. Buscandome...

This third full-length is bound to be the one that finally vaults this incendiary act from the fertile late-Nineties southern Florida hardcore scene into the national limelight. As a one-time musical theater performer, Elias Soriano nails every hook, and his vengeful screams could halt a battle in mid-pitch. His voice perfectly matches the intensity and complexity of Nonpoint's fusion of punk, metal and artful aggro...

As another rap/metal hybrid, Nonpoint, by nature, is pretty obnoxious, always striving in every moment on Statement to prove how hardcore they are, and no one has bothered to tell them that people were doing this stuff (and doing it better) 15 years ago. But for what they are, Nonpoint is actually pretty good.
While far from showing a deep sensitivity, Nonpoint's anger at least has a sense of reality behind it...
