The metalcore sound had its peak, in fact let's say a peak, about eight or ten years ago, around the time of Killswitch Engage's The End Of Heartache album. Remarkably in today's musical climate, it has had a second wind and is fair and square in the centre of attention in the heavy music world right now. Aussie bands are very much at the forefront of that renaissance, with Sydney's Northlane an integral part of that scene.Listening to their sophomore effort, Singularity, it's easy to see why...

I was given a copy of Northlane's latest album to take for a test drive recently and, since digesting the contents of Singularity, have now emerged from my man cave with a somewhat passive attempt at writing my tale. "You want the truth?" Right off the bat these guys show a sense of becoming. The lead track, 'Genesis' attempts to prepare you for an audial barrage of metalcore djent as it floats upwards, chugging along with pride, dragging you to the first full length song from this album...

Sound: Northlane have hugely improved from their first CD "Hollow Existence". The sound of brutal riffs and insane breakdowns make this album a HUGE standout. Adrian (vocalist) has one of the music unique screams I've experienced. The whole album in general makes you want to stand up and just mosh. The opening song "Dispossession" is one of my favourites off the album, and was the best choice for the opening song...
