Even though was recorded in just six days, there also is never a sense of the music being hurried. With the able assistance of ace producer Joe Henry and his talented crew of musicians (drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Jennifer Condos, keyboardist Patrick Warren and especially pedal steel genius Eric Heywood), Detweiler and Bergquist have exquisitely crafted songs with no wasted notes or unneeded embellished...

Tweet Over The Rhine is Out of Our Time On the other side of the Miami and Erie Canal from Cincinnati proper sits perhaps the largest and most intact urban historic district in the U. S. The original Germans who settled the area in the 1800s nicknamed the Canal "the Rhine," and their little community became known as "Over the Rhine." Out of this now-artistic community came the husband and wife team "Over The Rhine" in 1989...

This fan financed double studio set is divided by disc one subtitled Sacred Ground, and the other named Blue Jean Sky. They were both recorded in three day stints a month apart by longtime couple vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist and multi-instrumentalist Linford Detweiler. Liner notes explain that the songs were inspired by the land around their farm in southern Ohio and, as you might expect with that concept, the music is primarily acoustic, rustic and low key...

It may only be April, but Over the Rhine has already made a strong case for album of the year with its latest release, The Long Surrender. Married couple Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler have been making music together as Over the Rhine for twenty years, and while each studio album carries the band's signature sound, no two albums sound the same. For The Long Surrender, Bergquist and Detweiler collaborated with renowned producer/artist Joe Henry, and a better match could not have been made...

Over the Rhine is the Ohio indie husband-wife duo Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, whoâ??ve been making gorgeous records for a couple of decades that sound like they sprung from another time. On their new one, theyâ??ve found a soulmate in producer Joe Henry, who bathes their ethereal musical excursions in the sonic equivalent of a thick buffalo hide rug spread over an oak floor before a stone fireplace...

Husband/wife duos are starting to really hit the big-time. Mates of State and The Weepies are just two of the burgeoning artists coming out of this new sub-genre. But one group has been doing this for over 20 years and it shows on their latest album The Long Surrender. This fan-funded record comes with two sets of liner notes. One has everything you would expect; lyrics, thank yous, even a little write-up from producer Joe Henry, who also co-wrote two of the tracks on the album...

Giving up never sounded so good "When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose," Bob Dylan once famously sang, and Cincinnati's Over the Rhine delivers an hour-long treatise on that sentiment on The Long Surrender, their latest in a series of criminally overlooked albums. Okay, maybe not nothing, but close enough. When Over the Rhine solicited their fans to pony up their hard earned cash so that this album could be recorded, it was clear that the old business model wasn't working...
