Poor Ratt: they went from being key players in the formation of US metal, to enjoying chart success and then... well, certainly not the acclaim or notoriety enjoyed by Guns N'Roses or Mötley Crüe. Devoid of bonuses, this slipcase presents their first five full-length albums - and it's a good introduction to one of the key bands of their era. Omitting 1983's Ratt EP is, however, a shame, as it retained the rawness the band had in the late 70s...

Sound: Ratt released their second album "Invasion Of Your Privacy" in June of 1985. This album featured the normal Ratt sound that the first album 1984's "Out Of The Cellar" and their 1983 EP. Driven by guitarists Warren DeMartini and the late Robbin Crosby (R.I.P 1959-2002) this album showed the band growing as musicians and songwriters. On songs like "Never Use Love", "Give It All", and "Got Me On The Line" the band showed their growing talent. Ratt's first ballad also appeared on this album...

Did you read my WASP review last year? You may stop reading as I'll be reiterating some of those points made previously. While it's nowhere near as bad as Babylon it still has that incredible cheese factor that is hair metal and all the past glory included. Why it's made a resurgence I don't know because it was never cool, it's not musically interesting nor is it funny (unless you count that Rollins bootleg I smell a Ratt)...

An Infestation of Ratt is back, and we're better for it. Forgetting the reunion hype, band politics, and petty speculation, original long serving 80's Sunset Strip denizens Ratt are back in major form, with ex-Quiet Riot guitarist Carlos Cavazo along for the ride. Also forgetting the miserable 1999 eponymous comeback Ratt, this is the best Ratt has sounded in years. Yes, to answer your immediate question, Infestation is as good as Out of the Cellar or Invasion of Your Privacy...

Only their seventh studio release in three decades of playing (give or take), perhaps less is indeed more when it comes not just to L.A. hair metal in general, but originators Ratt in particular, as Infestation finds the furry five-piece close to the top of their game. The almost all-original lineup (a minor miracle in and of itself), with Quiet Riot guitarist Carlos Cavazo subbing for the now-deceased Robbin Crosby, brings a surprising immediacy and urgency to a dated form...

I have heard so much about Ratt over the past decade or so, yet never really took the opportunity to listen to their work. So I threw myself headlong at the new album "Infestation" (presumably a cheeky link to a 'Rat infestation'). Ratt are one of those bands who have been around long enough to know what does and doesn't work; completing many worldwide circuits whilst touring past material...

We all remember how the grunge explosion of 1992 so swiftly put a dagger through the heart of hair metal, but although it instantly rendered the sound and image totally irrelevant about four years after the pop metal wave crested, putting all the mousse abusers and poodle-heads on the unemployment line, for those bands from that era that did decide to tough it out, the negative effects ran far deeper...

The '80s had the Brat Pack on the silver screen and the Ratt Pack on the turntable. Ratt was one of the first and most successful glam metal hair bands of the decade, alongside Motley Crue, Poison and Twisted Sister, shaking their long locks as their guitar hooks shrieked like a communion of banshees. After surviving several break-ups, including a "final" one in 1999, and the untimely death of guitarist Robbin Crosby, Ratt reformed in 2007 to play a few shows...

Sound: In 2010, the glam metal icons of the '80s are starting to make nostalgic comebacks again. Some have never gone away, opting to tour with their fellow '80s rockers in the summer to many folks who haven't been able to let go of the past! Others have imploded, never to be heard from again, save for song on those '80s power hours on radio stations...
