Steve Hackett's work rate of late has to be admired. Having just collaborated on the never-less- than interesting Squackett project and delivered two of the best albums of his career with Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth and Beyond The Shrouded Horizon, he now returns to provide a second helping of his old band's music on Genesis Revisted II. When Hackett released Genesis Revisited in 1996, it seemed strangely out of step...

It was a completely surreal moment in TV history that may never be duplicated - and possibly the most satisfying moment I've ever experienced watching an award show. The befuddled audience sat in stunned silence as the alternative rock band Phish opened the show with "Watcher Of The Skies". The 'oh so' beautiful people appeared dazed and slightly disorientated as if exposed to a hazardous chemical spill - or discovered too late that they boarded the wrong plane and were headed for parts unknown...

As a very early member of Genesis, Steve Hackett was integral to much of the early work and certainly some of the best. He was involved all the way from ?Foxtrot? and through ?Selling England By The Pound?, ?Lamb Lies Down On Broadway? and etc. He has had a stellar solo career as well as being part of GTR and Squackett with Steve Howe and Chris Squire respectively and has guested on more albums than he cares to recount. So the question has to be asked ?Why revisit...

Beyond The Shrouded Horizon maintains the standard set by Hackett's 2010 "comeback", Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth. Working again with long-time collaborators, keyboardist Roger King, drummer Gary O'Toole, saxophonist Rob Townsend and bassist Nick Beggs alongside guests such as Chris Squire and, of course, brother John Hackett, the former Genesis guitarist is clearly enjoying himself...

Both creative and ambitious, prolific composer and accomplished guitarist Steve Hackett returns with Beyond the Shrouded Horizon, his 22nd studio album (if my count is correct). Mostly, this piece offers Hackett signature style of melodic, sometimes progressive, rock bolstered by symphonic notes. Of course, his expert fret work is at a premium throughout. The disc begins and ends with the most 'progressive' pieces in Loch Lomond and Turn This Island...

"Recorded in Paris, London and New York in 2009/2010, Live Rails captures the full Steve Hackett Electric Band at their best." Taken directly from the media copy and I would be inclined to agree. Intriguing & complex symphonic prog played by a tight band of musicians. Man, this is good stuff!Hackett mixes it up a bit with several selections from his superior last album, Out of the Tunnels Mouth. He stews them together with excellent songs from throughout his career...

You know him, and Steve Hackett's catalogue is prolific: 14 Releases with Genesis (1970-77), 2 Releases with GTR (1986-87), 22 Solo Releases (1970-present), and 12 Live albums. Oh yeah, did I mention that he's a damn fine guitarist and composer. Live Rails, recorded on the Out of the Tunnel's Mouth tour in New York, Paris, and London, displays the magical and immense talent of this artist...
