Suffocation Concert Tickets

Suffocation is an American death metal band originating in New York. The band formed in 1988 and approached this genre in their own style, revolving around heavy, uniquely rhythmic riffs and even deeper growling vocals and breakdowns to create a sub-genre of the form often termed "brutal" death metal - also known by many as "New York Death Metal," or "nydm" for short. Other New York death metal bands that soon after followed in the footsteps of Suffocation's style include Immolation, Incantation, Deathrune, Morpheus Descends, Infester and many others. Suffocation Reviews

February 2013 was an interesting month for death metal. The highly anticipated release of Portal's Vexovoid--a record that continues to linger in the darkest recesses of the listener's psyche long after its conclusion--saw the light of day, and received rapturous praise. Devourment split opinions with their Relapse debut by leaving the "slams" behind. One side declared the album boring and not as brutal as their past efforts...

Record Label: Nuclear Blast Year of Release: 2009 In 1989, Suffocation came to fruition. Spawning from New York and debuting such Death Metal greats as Immolation, Baphomet and Brutal Truth, they were the first innovators of Brutal, Technical Death Metal...

It's not easy to regroup after six years, satisfy your fans and silence your critics. It's even more difficult when you're revered for spawning brutal death metal in the early '90s, as Long Island's Suffocation are, possessing a legacy of savage riffs, maniacal drumming and vicious growling lyrics so merciless that it's yet to be replicated...

Regrouping for 2004's Souls to Deny, NYC's seminal brutal death metal act Suffy return with a new full-length less than two years later, an impressive feat in the painstakingly technical world in which they operate. As such it's not surprising to find Suffocation sounding muddy, rough and raw, perhaps abandoning (like their fans) any reservations that may have surrounded their "comeback," and just tearing it out old-school style...

Death metal is a feeling, not just a style. Yes, it has parameters. It includes growling vocals, blastbeats, and riffs that ideally should sound like murder. No, it is not all metal that is abrasive, a shorthand laymen often employ. Out of metal's many subgenres, death metal sounds the biggest and most masculine. That's neither positive nor negative. The music has simply evolved that way since Death and Possessed pushed thrash to harder, faster extremes in the late 1980s...

Sound: This Suffocation album stands out more than the previous albums to me, sound wise. It seems like the band went back and thought of their production very hard. The vocals are more understandable, the guitar has less frivolous gain, and the snare seems tighter. But don't be mistake; this is still the Suffocation I fell in love with. The guitar solos are still blazing fast, with a hellish drum beat over it. They combine groove with hellish brutality...

Sound: I still remenber when I first heard "Breeding The Spawn" by suffocation and my first re-action was, "these guys can play" because the songs are so technical, complex, intelligent, original, and, it defines the word brutal... It's hard to pick a favorite song but if I had to pick? It would be "Beginning Of Sorrow" a amazing song. All hail to suffocation! Musicianship is awesome however production is very poor quality, however a great album...

Sound: This album is the most brutal and heavy album ever made. Suffocation is one of the first technical brutal death metal band ever formed, and the founders of NYDM (New York death metal). The guitar work is amazing because the riffs are very crunchy intense. Plus this album is a Death Metal classic, and it introduced the true meaning of brutal death metal. The drumming is very fast and also this bands creates the best blast beats ever...

Sound: Since the early 90's Suffocation have delivered us with some great death metal albums like Effigy of the Forgotten and Pierced from Within. There new album Blood Oath is a improvement production wise from past alums and continues to improve each album as you would expect a band to. The over all production sound on this album is very clean and sounds great but there isn't anything really mind blowing that you have not herd before on any other death metal album...
