Sound: Suicide Silence were one of the primary bands to have brought the "deathcore" sound to the general masses. Along with other bands like job for a cowboy, the acacia strain and whitechapel, they popularized the blast-beat-breakdown combination that has become so prevalent in today's heavy music...

Sound: Does this sound like something new or special? Really? Because everyone says so! The answer is a giant no, this has been done a thousand times before! But that's the problem with death metal, it has already been done! Not saying that there is nothing new on this record, some small experimenting has been performed with small steady steps. 01. Revelations (Intro): This is just a little intro, packed with screams, feedback and all the cliques...

Sound: For a number of months I have been awaiting the release of Suicide Silence's most recent effort, "The Black Crown". This deathcore quintet has always been a very solid act in my opinion, becoming interested in what they had to offer ever since I first heard their debut album's hit "Unanswered". Their frantic, blast beat-driven sound with crushing breakdowns shuffled within had initially piqued my interest, and as far as I am concerned has only improved with time...

Goto commentsLeave a commentShare Death Be Very Proud If ever there was such a genre as "pop-deathcore," Riverside, California's Suicide Silence have defined it. Spilling out sounds that would typically be accessible to a select audience, they have managed to break into the Billboard Top 200 with each of their last two albums, The Cleansing (2007) and No Time to Bleed (2009). There is no reason to think that their newest collection, The Black Crown, won't enjoy the same distinction...

Suicide Silence are one of those bands you probably know, without knowing it. The California quintet have enjoyed somewhat cult-like following since 2008's debut record No Time To Bleed. They are slowly building a following and honing their craft, this year's record number three, The Black Crown is further evidence of that. You may be wondering, 'how do I know this band then?' Look out for their logo design and you may just recognise it from band shirts...

Suicide Silence is one of those bands that divide much like a samurai sword to the head. A quick search and you'll find people who adore them, as well as the haters who loathe them more than finding their parents bumping uglies on a Sunday morning. Frankly, I've never been drawn to them, mostly because their deathcore sound annoyed me to no ends and I truly got a headache from listening to 'Wake Up' once - well, that could also be attributed to my car's faulty air conditioner, but still...

What a pleasure to discover a new heavy band. And a good one. On this third album (with as many EPs) in almost a decade, Suicide Silence prove they earned their place in the metal scene and on the Century Media roster. Think of Pantera and Lamb of God at their heaviest, with Cannibal Corpse-like riffs and solos (by way of Slayer) and some furious deathcore growls and sporadic metronomic grind rhythms on top. The riff from O.C.D...

Californian deathcore merchants Suicide Silence have been floating around the extreme metal scene for a few years, building a solid following without doing anything spectacular - until now. Third album The Black Crown sees the band rather brilliantly take the entire ethos and mentality of death metal, hardcore and other associated genres and throw it all together to create forty minutes of face-melting, fist-pumping, headbanging brutality...

"All the familiar elements that make this band are present in spades." It's amazing what a difference ten years makes in the hazy realm of subgenres. Had Suicide Silence emerged before the turn of the millennium, it's not difficult to imagine them leading a revolution of underground extreme music, like fellow L.A. outfit and proto-deathcore act Crematorium before them...
