The Acacia Strain Reviews

Release Date: October 9, 2012 What do you do when you get angry? Stress relief is a wide-ranging outlet, but it seems as if more often than not, The Acacia Strain have found a way for many a deathcore fan to truly release their inner spite in the form of tsunami-like guitars and venom-tongued lyrics...

Sound: Like plenty of other bands, The Acacia Strain hasn't been immune from the revolving-door syndrome. Originally the deathcore band featured 3 guitarists, but it has been whittled down to just Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz taking on all of the shredding duties. One might assume that would take away from the wall of sound, but thanks to layer upon layer of recorded guitar tracks, The Acacia Strain's new album Continent doesn't disappoint...

"The entire album stays smooth and systematic, offering a good range of new-age, hardcore music" When I first started listening to The Acacia Strain's new album, "The Dead Walk," I was pleasently surprised by the band's raw, hardcore sounds. The Acacia Strain started back in 2002 with a purpose. Openly known for trying to write the "heaviest music possible," they have been attempting to break the hardcore scene and join the likes of Hatebreed and others enjoying main-stage glory...

Listen To: The Impaler Skip It: Tactical Nuke Massive drop-tuned guitars resonate over a slap-happy double bass foundation on Wormwood, The Acacia Strain's fourth studio album. This record's heaviness warrants a backup set of speakers, it's a start to finish firing range of hardcore tinged death metal. Living up to its name, album opener "Beast" (featuring Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta) is a muscle shirt shredding inspiration...

The Acacia Strain certainly have a point to prove with Wormwood. It's a little unclear what that point is as the band rely on the hammer concept beating the life out you until you accept or reject their offering. This isn't a surprise however, The Acacia Strain wander the realm of this generations nu-metal a. k. a. deathcore. A fair comparison as the same ethics litter the scene planted some fifteen years ago...

Sound: On a recent press release for Acacia Strain's latest album Wormwood, there was one comment that stood out regarding the Massachusetts band's ability to "embody anger." Certainly vocalist Vincent Bennett seems to be one pissed off individual with every vitriolic phrase he utters, but that aspect of the Acacia Strain shouldn't take away from the other unbelievable elements to the 12 new tracks...

Sound: The Acacia Strain have made a career for themselves out of being heavy. It's no secret that ever since the band started, with their 2002 debut album, "...And Life Is Very Long", that they have set out to create the heaviest riffs they can, utilizing 3 guitarists to augment their sound. On their 2004 release, "3750", they made the jump from "generic metalcore with some melodic parts" to their current, brutal metalcore assault...

For metal fans who have become jaded to stylized violence, the Acacia Strain's latest album delivers a brutal jolt. Continent contains no poetic descriptions of carnage nor gorgeous guitar harmonies; nothing but blunt, ugly language ("I want the world to have my rape baby/So when it's born I can strangle it to death" from "Baby Buster") and bludgeoning riffs. After committing several savage murders, this concept album's misanthropic protagonist initiates global genocide...
