The Descendents Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Sound: The record is full of pop-punk sounds, but also with a political twist which is seen in tracks such as 'Merican. The sound quality on this album is, as always with Fat Wreck Chords and The Descendents, very good. It's been mastered and recorded well, although on some tracks the bass is unheard. // 8 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics on this album are awesome, the singer, Milo, shows his full potential to write lyrics from the first song on this album...

What more can I say? Descendents killed it. Period. No question about it. Somewhere just before 10 p.m., the crowd became thicker, and Milo Aukerman, Stephen Egerton, Karl Alvarez, and Bill Stevenson took the stage, Milo speaking of the hamburger they all just indulged a bit earlier called the "Fire Cracker Burger" and that a trashcan was sitting backstage just in case. Opening with the anthem "Descendents", the crowd suddenly became a fury of fists, beer cans and cell phones...

Sound: One thing you instantly notice while listening to this record is the presence of the bass. There is some really cool bass lines in this record particually in songs like myage and parents. The songs on this album compared to the other albums I find and better structured and have more catchy melodies. This was the first album and I think it's still the best. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics on this album sound great...

After a certain age, acting like a goofy youth becomes embarrassing - and it's reasonable to say that the Descendents are well past that age. Mercifully, 'Merican, their first record in about eight years (with a full-length, Cool to Be You, on its way) is infused with at least a slight amount of maturity, and one song, I Quit, takes a trademark tongue-in-cheek stab at their status as anachronisms...

As the hands-downfinest punk-pop band ever to come out of California, theDescendents have a lot to live up to with their first studioalbum with singer Milo Aukerman since he left eight years ago.And while Everything Sucks is miles ahead of anything the Milo-lessDescendents released under the moniker All, it's still a turgidmess compared with the infectious, energized anthems the quartetproduced in their Reagan-era heyday. Dare we say it? Everything does...

Sound: Anyone with a knowledge of punk rock should have at least heard of the Descendents, seeing as though they left an undenyable mark in the genre. Their influence can be felt through bands who play Punk, Pop-Punk, Hardcore or Metalcore. This album is a compilation released in 1991 whilst the band was on hiatus (while singer Milo Auckerman was attending college and the rest of the band members played in the criminally underrated band All)...

Sound: In this band's second full length attempt, they show a hint of what would later be called pop/punk. Songs like, Can't Go Back and My World, in my opinion two really great songs, aren't has rough and snotty as the songs from Milo Goes To College. But then we have songs like, Pervert and No Fb, which brings out their original lightning fast punk we all love. That brings me to the Instrumental called Theme. For guitar players, it's not the hardest song but, its pretty fun to play...

Reviewing a Descendents release is kind of like eating your favorite ice cream. You pretty much know what you're in for before it even hits your lips. Basically, the Descendents are the grandpapies of punk-pop. Much like the Ramones, Stooges, and countless other pioneers of various punk angles, they get heaps of props and praise while young wankers like Green Day, Sum 41, and Good Charlotte get heaps of cash...

Me and a friend were cruising Richmond's Fan District the other night, blasting some Ziggy Stardust and not really looking for much to do. It was a muggy, hot, Confederate kind of night, and we were on hooker-watch, hoping to catch sight of some of Virginia's skaniest, when instead we ran across a roving gaggle of frat boys, harumphing and back-slapping down the avenue like they didn't suck. Not really thinking, I leaned out the window and screamed, "Dorks rule...
