It's good to have this band back. After a decade and a half of cranking out some of the most eclectic and surprising progressive rock you will ever hear, this Canadian institution took a break in 2005, which lasted six years, and it has taken them another three to release any brand new music.
All up, it is a full decade between studio albums for this classic power trio, but it's most definitely worth the wait. The Ocean at the End makes it sound like they have never been away...

Considering that The Tea Party have been together since '90, give or take six years when they were apart due to "creative differences", it's kind of surprising that The Ocean At The End is only their eighth studio album. Sound: The album ranges from some more powerfull and heavy sounding songs such as Writings On The Wall and Overload to some softer and more melodic ones like Wishing You Would Stay and Oceans. Their middle eastern sound they have is prevalent in a couple of the songs on this CD. The guitar and singing by Jeff Martin is absolutley amazing, Stuart Chatwood does a great job on the bass and keyboard, and Jeff Burrows, like always, does a great job on the drums...

I would almost say that the track "Winter Solstice" has an almost east indian fealing to it (this track, by the way shows some very impressive guitar work bt Jeff Martin)...

Swirling out of the Canadian north, the Tea Party swoops down on you like a blizzard, and Transmission sounds like it's at the center of the storm. Sounding a lot like a Nine Inch Nails of the north, the Tea Party pulses and grooves along with such cuts as "Temptation," "Army Ants" and the title tune. This trio manages to come up with just enough hooks to keep the listening interesting without sacrificing their sound...
