The War On Drugs Reviews

It can be difficult to gain a balanced perspective on an album after reading a single summary of the music. Bias can tilt a review, as can personal taste, history and just about everything else that is unique to the person writing it. So in an effort to offer an expanded perspective in such a medium, here are four reactions, four impressions, four takes on Lost in the Dream by The War on Drugs...

The War on DrugsLost in the Dream (Secretly Canadian) Given the Garcia/Weir split of the War on Drugs, wherein departed longhair Kurt Vile once interwove lysergic epiphanies with co-captain Adam Granduciel, this Philly-by-way-of-Oakland trio gives as good as it gets. Lost in the Dream matches last year's Wakin' on a Pretty Daze from Vile riff for riff...

www.secretlycanadian.com BY STEVE WILSON The War on Drugs ... Adam Granduciel's band is named for America's dubious 'war on drugs,' initiated by Richard Nixon in 1971, which has subsequently cost the American people roughly $51,000,000,000.00 annually. Of course Granduciel's war may be more personal. Yet the allusion is a knowing one. On Lost in the Dream, Granduciel's dream sounds like an updating and reimagining of the very Seventies from which the band's namesake sprang...

Lost In The Dream, the fourth release from Philadelphian four-piece The War On Drugs, is an odyssey of reverb-soaked Americana laced with electronic tones and underpinned by a subtle but inescapable sense of sorrow. The American folk influences are so pertinent here they're almost tangible. It sounds like a Bob Dylan record acquainted with a modern electrified ambience and weighed down with a very heavy grief...

If the leap from their 2008 debut, 'Wagonwheel Blues', to 2011's 'Slave Ambient' was fairly staggering, then this third album does little to suggest that the ambition of Philadelphia's The War On Drugs has shrivelled. Spacey jangle is still in the foreground and the motorik Springsteen shtick has grown grander. Frontman Adam Granduciel has a perfect American rock voice and, soaked in reverb, it soars on this fine set of songs...

I've been lost in the new TWOD (The War On Dugs) for the past 3 weeks. And while I absolutely love it, I just couldn't think of anything to say. And now as I write this at 3:00 am in the morning, I can't stop the influx of thoughts rushing through my brain. Tonight is just one of those nights that I'm dead tired, but every time I fall back asleep my 2 year old wallows out for about 30 seconds for no reason....I honestly think it's just to spite me at this point. Anyhoo, the 5th times is a charm...

Tweet You Will Be Found Lost In The Dream, the latest from The War on Drugs, offers up a larger, more polished take on the band's 2011 masterpiece, Slave Ambient. That album's blend of laid back Americana, hazy and ethereal synthesizers and Adam Granduciel's breezy Dylanesque chanting gave the world a new standard on which to judge a genre not always known for the most intriguing and colorful sonic palettes. On Lost, they build on that in an extraordinary way...

Philadelphia's The War on Drugs have long flirted with some sizeable influences: droning Sonic Youth guitars; the scrappy, ragged glory of Neil Young; and some serious Springsteen-adoring, Americana anthems. On their third LP Lost in the Dream , frontman Adam Granduciel may as well have locked himself in the studio with Darkness on the Edge of Town and a bag of pot...
