The Weepies are back with consistency but no surprises. The sweet goldmine of Deb Talan's vocals, the undeniably beautiful harmonies and the strong lyrical talent, appear again on their newest album, Hideaway. Yet this 14-track compilation may not be enough to make it a memorable find. The duo does lend versatility vocally and production-wise on tracks like Little Bird, whose waltz-like rhythm is by far the best on the album, simply because it's different...

The Weepies -- husband-and-wife team Deb Talan and Steve Tannen -- carve out a unique niche with their happy-go-lucky brand of folk-pop, most of which has its roots in the couple's seemingly endless love affair. Their sound would've fit well into the Dawson's Creek-era pop coterie (the Paula Coles and Shawn Colvins of the not-so-distant past). And on their latest, Be My Thrill, a tight mix of romantic ballads ("They're in Love, Where Am I...

I have this hypothesis for any one who reads this review: everyone is going to fall into one of two categories. One category are people who have heard (or heard of) The Weepies, and would like to read my opinion on their newest release, "Hideaway." The other category is people who don't know who The Weepies are, but unbeknownst to them they have likely heard one of their songs already...

This dropped onto my mat unannounced and unexpected and I ignored it for a week or so, thinking that with a band name like the Weepies this would probably be some emo negativity with lots of heart-rending strings and an anguished vocalist whose soul was out on show. Oops. When I got around to giving it a listen I found myself entranced by some sumptuous melodies, harmonies from heaven and some of the most positive folky, poppy songs I've heard for a while...

With their second major label release under their belt and accomplishments that include contributions to motion picture soundtracks, TV appearances and Hideaway listing as the third most downloaded album in the US, The Weepies seem to have somewhat undermined their 'bubbling-away-beneath-the-surface of success' street cred...

On the opening track "Please Speak Well of Me" of the Weepies fourth studio album Be My Thrill there is the most annoying triangle sound that emulates the ring of a 60s rotary phone. It makes me think my cell phone is ringing and it's thoroughly distracting and rather aggravating. I'm continuously raising my ear to listen for my phone, placing the album on hold to ensure that the sound is in fact coming from my headphones...

The Weepies are back with a solid collection of TV-friendly songs that dance around the joys and mysteries of dating and living with another person. The arrangements are refreshingly simple, chords are well-behaved, and their vocal stylings are warm and inviting like a fresh baked apple pie and a cold glass of milk. Steve Tannen and Deb Talan had independent careers until they met at a show and discovered they played so well together that they should make records and babies...

Sound: A folk-rock album with a fresh sound. The two star members, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, were big fans of each other and began writing immediately after meeting at Club Passim in Boston. They switch off lead vocals from song to song. Mainly acoustic. Talan's voice is very calm, smooth and mellow. A refreshing break from pop sound today in music. Very unique. Has an almost raw sound despite being very well produced with great harmonies...

Summary: Deb Talan and Steven Tannen crack a smile and start their career. 1 of 1 thought this review was well written Who is better suited to title an album Happiness than The Weepies? Their names are Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, and if their music is any hint, they're probably all smiles, all the time. I imagine the husband and wife duo residing in a cute Massachusetts bungalow, cuddling up beneath an electric blanket to the evening news...
