2014’s Sleeper Hit “Trap Queen”

Wap, born Willie Maxwell in 1991, made an unexpectedly big splash with his 2014 debut single, Trap Queen.” Released in April 2014, the song sailed up the charts to the number 2 spot on Billboard’s Top 100, and stuck in the Top Ten for 25 consecutive weeks. The infectious beat and cheery sound wowed critics and fans alike, and landed the 23-year-old singer a round of talk-show and concert appearances. It culminated with Wap performing the song live at the 2015 MTV Music Awards with Fallout Boy, as well as on the BET Awards 2015, the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live, among other things.

Grammy Award Nominations

Wap fielded not one, but two 2016 Grammy nominations – one for Best Rap Song and one for Best Rap Performance – but didn’t get named for the Best New Artist category. That’s a fact that has a few folks up in arms, with rapper Fifty Cent starting a minor social media firestorm by Tweeting out that the Grammies had “snubbed” Fetty Wap – and there are some pretty good arguments to back that assertion. It wasn’t just that Trap Queen was so memorable and successful. In fact, Wap followed the Queen up with four more singles, and each of them charted on Billboard. His first album release, the eponymous “Fetty Wap,” debuted in September at number one on the Billboard 200. It dropped to number four in the second week, but sold 214,000 copies as of mid-December 2015.

Fetty Wap Concert Tour

Earlier this month, Wap announced that he’ll be touring in support of Fetty Wap. The aptly named “Welcome to the Zoo” tour officially kicks off February 5 at the Fillmore Silver Spring, but Wap will be hitting stages in a number of other productions and shows as well. He’ll be appearing at Owlchella with French Montana and Logic & Wale in Philly on January 14, and last week, he excitedly tweeted that he’ll be touring on the Monster Energy Outbreak tour in Spring 2016. Between the two tours and other dates, you should be able to get Fetty Wap tickets in nearly any large city sometime during 2016.

And of course, it’s not enough for Wap to release 5 singles and a top-selling album, launch a major concert tour, field two Grammy nominations and just generally wow the entire country with the most rappable song in recent memory. The New Jersey rapper is closing out the year by dropping two surprise hits – his Merry Xmas song, followed within a day by a brand new single, “Handgun.”

All this is to say that if you don’t know Fetty Wap, you’re going to know him soon – and what better way to get to know a singer than by listening to him live. You can find Fetty Wap concert tickets for the Welcome to the Zoo tour and his other appearances online, through third-party ticket sites.
