The River Isn’t a New Album, but it’s Message is Eternal

Some people not familiar with The Boss believe River is a new recording, but the truth is that this is the album was first recorded 36 years ago, and Springsteen has just re-released it in a boxed set. But that doesn’t stop his fans from wanting to hear the favorite songs over and over again.

And although Springsteen released the album way back in 1980 when he was 31, the message of the songs are everlasting. Springsteen himself summed up the lyrics of the songs when he said, “Time slipping away. And once you enter that adult world, the clock starts ticking and you’ve got a limited amount of time to do your work, to raise your family, to try and do something good.”

The songs on The River all hint at the importance of time like “The Ties That Bind.” Springsteen addressed the meaning of the songs while onstage when he said The River strove to address the connections, responsibilities and compromises of adult life, from the fleeting pleasures of a night out on the town dancing to the commitments of marriage and parenthood.

Fans Can’t Get Enough

There has been a lot of talk in the social media world about the shortage of tickets and fans from all over are expressing their willingness to do anything to get their hands of them. Just today, one person tweeted: “Springsteen tix go on sale in 5 minutes. Two computers running and fingers crossed! Anybody who scores tickets, I’m ready to be your date!”

The Tour

The Tour didn’t actually start out as a tour. When Springsteen and the E Street Band released the album in a boxed set, they decided to do one promotional show to help promote it, but that was such a success, they decided to expand the effort and do a couple more. Then they decided to do some one-nighters around the country and before anyone knew it, a full blown tour was scheduled. So far, the majority of the tour is in the U.S., but the band does plan one stop in Lisbon.

Fans got another pleasant surprise when the band announced 14 new tour dates, plus a makeup date for Madison Square Garden since the orginial date was cancelled due to the severe winter storm that recently hit the area.
