Keith Urban Ripcord Summer Concert Tour About to Be an Emotional Blockbuster

131024_ai13_ku_silk_034rev1Keith Urban is about to blow up the summer with a huge international tour and the release of his eighth studio album, both of them named Ripcord – and he’s got the same goal for the connected projects: to make an emotional connection with his fans. Urban recently made the rounds of the country music media to talk with reporters about the upcoming Ripcord tour, his latest singles, and how important that fan connection is to him.

The Album Behind the Tour

Ripcord the album isn’t even finished yet, but it has already placed two singles into heavy rotation on the country singles charts. The first Ripcord single, “John Cougar, John Deere, John  3:16,” not only made it into the country Top 10, it’s already garnered a 2016 Grammy nomination for best country solo male vocalist performance. The second, “Break on Me,” dropped in October and debuted at number 54 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Within a few weeks, it had marched to the #5 position on the U.S. Country Airplay chart, and hit #1 on Billboard’s Canada Country. And this is from an album that Urban is hoping will be finished in time for the start of its supporting tour.

Speaking of Keith Urban Tour Tickets…

The Tour

The Ripcord summer country tour kicks off June 2 in Kansas City, Missouri, and will swing through 45 cities – at last count. There were cities and dates being added to the Ripcord schedule as late as two weeks ago, when Urban’s publicist announced the addition of three shows in the great wild west – one show in Montana, one in Idaho and one in Iowa. The Urban machine is also promising a healthy helping of dates outside the U.S., including shows in Australia and Canada, making it, in Urban’s words, “a truly international tour.”

“I’d love to get back to Europe,” Urban told reporters. “It’s been a while since we played there.”

Of course, you could say the same thing about a lot of the cities that Urban will be hitting stateside. The current schedule includes several cities that have never seen Urban appear as a headliner, and at least five that haven’t seen the country star on stage for nearly a decade. Those cities long deprived of the country crooner’s presence include two of the most recently added dates, Montana and Iowa. You can bet that it will be crazy trying to get Keith Urban tickets for those shows, especially with the anticipation rising around the possible release of Ripcord.

As far as that fan connection goes, Urban says that he’s working with tour designer Roy Bennett, with whom he worked on his last tour. He’s hoping that together, he and Bennett will be able to come up with new ways to connect emotionally with his audiences in large arenas and stadiums. It’s a challenge to create an intimate feeling in large venues, Urban says, but “…every time I think there’s nothing else that can be done, we stumble upon things that we are willing to try.”

Urban says he is always looking for new ways to make that emotional connection, and that there are infinite things he can try to forge new connections. That’s why he loves touring – and for his fans, the feeling is mutual.
