The Most Outrageous Things Zac Brown Has Ever Said

ZbbThe Zac Brown Band is about to hit the road for a summer of touring, with shows starting May 19 in Hartford, CT (check out our Zac Brown Band tickets inventory to get the best seats for that show, of course!). The 37-year-old singer and songwriter is well-known as both a country music artist and a philanthropist. His Southern Ground Camp, which is committed to providing outdoor experiences to kids of all abilities – is just one of the ways that Brown gives back to community. Zac Brown’s Southern Ground brand is, in itself, an enormous “giving back” – of talent, support and commitment. The label, production studio, restaurant and crafters studio are all part of Brown’s vision of quality, of giving fans (and customers) what they deserve.

Zac Brown is also well known for speaking his mind. He doesn’t pull punches, and he doesn’t hide behind a persona. When interviewers sit down with the Zac Brown Band front man, they never know quite what’s going to come out of his mouth. One thing they do know for sure, though, is that they’re going to get one heck of an interview. Sometimes controversial, sometimes so sweet you’ve gotta pretend you got a speck in your eye, the one thing Brown is always is unflinchingly honest. You don’t have to look far to find five memorable things Zac Brown has told interviewers over the years.

It’s the Worst Song I’ve Ever Heard

Back in September 2013, fellow country singer Luke Bryan was riding high with a new hit single, “That’s My Kind of Night,” when Brown told a Vancouver, B.C. radio host that it was “the worst song I’ve ever heard.” He went on to blast “moonlight, daisy dukes and tailgate” songs in general, saying that country music fans deserve better. They deserve songs “that have something to say, something that makes you feel something.” He made it clear that his opinion was meant for the song only – Bryan didn’t write the song – and that he loves Luke Bryan and the two are good friends.

I Love Electronic Music

It might be sacrilege to traditional country music fans, but Brown told Rolling Stone that he loves playing electronic music, and that he had a lot of fun doing a straight rock song that sat at #1 for nine weeks. “That was amazing to me,” he said. He has no plans to abandon his country music audience, he went on, but he also wants to reach new markets with new kinds of music. “Any music that has integrity, I’m going to like,” he said.

I Want My Four Daughters to Grow Up Canning in the Kitchen with Us

…which is not as outrageous as it sounds at first. Brown was answering a question from Southern Living about what he wants to teach his four daughters. He continued to say that he wants them to know what’s real, to know how to fish and to have a job. “I want to make sure they know that there’s no free ride,” he said. “You don’t want spoiled kids in high school that end up being worthless later on.”

I Knew She Was the One from the Very First Kiss

Last summer, Brown told Taste of Country that he knew his wife Shelly was the one from the moment they first locked lips – which wasn’t long after the first time their eyes met. It may be as close as anyone gets to a real love at first sight story. It happened at a New Year’s Eve show. “My date had stood me up,” he said. “I was walking back to my friends two minutes before midnight and thinking I’m not going to have anyone to kiss – and there she was.” He kissed her and the rest is history.

While you might not ever know what’s going to come out of Zac Brown’s mouth, you can be sure of one thing – when he gets in front of a microphone, there will be some good music happening and you don’t want to miss that.
