I'm about to go out on a limb here. As for how, we'll get to that shortly. Stereolithic is 311's 11th album. It's a break from the majors into indie self-release territory, and a reunion with producer Scotch Ralston, whose presence hasn't been heard on a 311 album since 1999's Soundsystem. I say going out on a limb because I rate the album an 7, while more than a few critics have trashed Stereolithic for reasons that make me wonder if they were listening to the same album...

?????????? 311 has spent months promoting its first proper album since 2009, rallying the base with email blasts, even setting a March 11th release date to coincide with the concert tradition known as 311 Day. The first event happened in 2000, in pre-Katrina New Orleans, and has since returned every two years, with few exceptions. The shows boast a setlist spanning 60-plus songs, can run as long as five hours, and always feature a stunning drum solo involving all five band members...

On their first indie album in more than 20 years, funk metal's chillest bros are less concerned with elbowing for radio play - they've ditched producer Bob Rock after two albums - and are more content to settle into a heavier, self-sustaining life as a reggae version of alt-metal mainstays Helmet. Fighting the push-pull of negative-vibe merchants ("They wanna play my emotions/But I'm like the ocean"), the LP bursts with joyous choruses and taut grooves imported directly from the band's Nineties...

In the '90s, with the odd exception, there was no other band for me: 311 was it. As I ascended through junior high, then high school, the 311 insignia was not only a staple of my wardrobe, both emblazoned on t-shirts and patches that I had hand-stitched onto my backpack, but it was also found on various posters throughout my bedroom...

Sound: First of all, I'd like to say that 311 is a great band and I recommend you all check them out. I find that this album covers new ground for the band. There is acoustic parts on a couple of songs, which I like. There is also alot less of a rap side to this album which I feel is good too as it provides kind of a fresh feel. There is however, a lot less reggae than in past albums which I do not like. For more of the funk and reggae lovers, this wont be a good album...

Sound: "Don't Tread on Me," the latest from alt/rap/reggae rockers 311, is part classic 311, and part experimental. 311 explore with their sound while trying to stay true to their roots. But basically, it's just more island reggae, with some metallic guitars. The only diffrerence is that SA has more of a vocal presence, which I thought was pretty impressive. I'll review these songs track by track: 01. Don't Tread On Me - just like all of 311's radio hits...

Sound: Well I've heard almost every song on this album before, with the exception of their two new singles. The sound on this album is good, but their older songs "Do You Right" and "Homebrew" didn't sound as good as the rest. // 8 Lyrics and Singing: One of the things I like best about 311 is that their lyrics involve daily life. I like all of the metaphors that are in the lyrics...

Sound: 311 comes back after 2 years after the release of "Uplifter". The album "Uplifter" was a 16 track album if you went to the effort of getting the Deluxe edition (with "I Like The Way" and "Get Down") both of which are worthy of being in the Album (fans love "Get Down") and the bonus tracks of "Sun Comes Through" and "How Long Has It Been". Fans seem to gravitate toward "Get Down" and "Sun Comes Through" as the most worthy. As for "Universal Pulse". It is a 8 song album...

Sound: 311 has always been a ban with several different styles working together to come up with a sound which is not seen anywhere else. On this album everyone is performing at the best they ever have, and the harmonies are incredible. One extrodinary fact about this album is the bass work by P-Nut. This is probably some of the best bass work he has ever done...
