This is a long-overdue review of one of the mainstays on my Winamp media player (RIP Winamp). Despite the history of its members, who had belonged to the disbanded Creed, a band that encouraged a great deal of haters to spew their usual vitriol, Alter Bridge's first release was as close to perfect as any debut could get. One Day Remains is a clean-cut hard-rock album which is easily identifiable, solid and exudes experience. The crowds opened their arms to them...

Review: Alter Bridge -- Fortress

Having spent much of the last three years touring with their "other" bands (Creed, Slash, Projected), it's no wonder the members of Alter Bridge have tried to make their fourth album special...

The next time Paul Gambaccini is wheeled out to announce that rock is dead, someone needs to introduce him to Alter Bridge. Already hugely successful, as their forthcoming European arena tour confirms, the American quartet have breathed new life into the notion of bombastic, radio-friendly but uncompromising hard rock anthems. Fortress, the band's fourth album, suggests that their upward sprint is set to continue...

From its haunting acoustic guitar intro, to the signature vocals of Myles Kennedy the first song, Cry from Achilles sets you up to what is the best album the band has made to date. When the band kicks into full gear, you can hear a heavier Alter Bridge. Like their previous disc AB III, this disc continues a trend where the music is darker than either their debut or Blackbird. Alter Bridge: sunglasses for all...

Sound: Alter Bridge was formed in 2004, and since that time they've began building a respectable name for themselves. Notably, as far as furthering their name outside of the band, vocalist Myles Kennedy has worked with Slash on two albums and guitarist Mark Tremonti has released a very popular guitar DVD. "Fortress" is the band's fourth full-length studio release and contains 12 tracks with a runtime of just under 63 minutes...

Documentary makers have to stop randomly asking fans in stadium parking lots what they think of the band they're queuing up to see. No one cares about their poxy, everyday opinions, and it just reminds us all what a bunch of sheep we are. That bugbear aside, Alter Bridge's triumphant live souvenir of a Wembley Arena show last year is a pretty impressive beast, giving you 14 audio tracks, 21 on the first DVD and a 54-minute documentary on the second...

Sound: Very impressive for the long-awaited single. Tremonti stated in an interview concerning the release of 'Blackbird' that he and Myles (Kennedy, vocalist/guitarist) would be writing more songs together as a team rather than Tremonti writing the majority of 'One Day Remains' and you can tell. A whole new set of tricks Alter Bridge pulls out...

Sound: The album kicks off with a track called "Slip To The Void." Up until about a minute and a half in, the song has kind of a strange feel. After a verse of Myles' whispering, it kicks into the Alter Bridge we know and love. "Isolation," one of my personal favorites comes in at track #2. This was the first single from the album. It is classic heavy AB. The song begins with Scott Phillips' snare and it doesn't stop until the 4 minutes and 13 seconds are over...

Sound: It's not easy for some musicians to let go of the past with their former bands, but Alter Bridge's Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips may be an example of the contrary. Despite Creed being teased for it's benign rock and vocalist Scott Stapp's antics in the public eye, the formation of Alter Bridge has breathed new life into Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillip's careers...
