Cee Lo Green Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

For a so-called larger-than-life performer such as CeeLo Green, a Vegas extravaganza referencing an entertainment figure synonymous with glamour and excess in the showbiz Mecca of the US would seem a savvy move. Green, however, is not Liberace, and though this show, filmed at Planet Hollywood, is intentionally tongue-incheek, it comes across as a tad half-hearted.

With all the hoopla regulated to Cee Lo Green's buoyant retro-soul epiphanies and primetime expeditions on NBC's The Voice, a family-friendly, all-star holiday extravaganza had to be somewhere in the works. At first glance, Cee Lo's Magical Moment- his first full set after 2010's The Lady Killer, appears out of thin air looking like another one of Green's Vegas stage acts. In his world of Elton John extravagance, the album title actually sounds like DVD extras left off of his last episode...

Only on glancing terms with good taste ... Cee-Lo Green. Photograph: Rex Features/Kristin Callahan This week, as is traditional, the singles chart is full of Christmas records. Curiously, every one is a reissue of very advanced years: Mariah Carey's 18-year-old All I Want for Christmas Is You counts as a snotty young upstart. Elsewhere, Wizzard, Slade and Wham...

"I found joy through all my pain / I just wanna be happy with being me," sang Cee-Lo on Common's 1997 album One Day It'll All Make Sense. At the time he was examining his relationships with religion and blackness on a song called "G.O.D. (Gaining One's Definition)", but the Cee-Lo that's grown into the public spotlight over these past six post-"Crazy" years seems to have taken that particular line as a mantra he keeps close to his heart at all times...

Cee Lo Green's been at this juncture of popular music before. The ubiquity of 'Fuck You' mirrors his success with Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy,' the 2006 leftfield hit whose infectious melody and razor-sharp electro-soul production masked a dark and troubled lyric. 'Fuck You' is nowhere near as subtle - and is explicit in every sense of the word - but it ticks just about all the other boxes, from vibrant Motown production to a chorus so catchy it'll stick to your ears...

Summary: Highlights galore 9 of 9 thought this review was well written It's difficult to get a good grasp on Cee Lo's latest, even now. First, it deserves to be mentioned that the expectations for Cee Lo's new album were staggering. Somewhat unexpectedly, the R & B artist was met with unmatched popularity during the heat of high summer when his single "Fuck You" garnered a remarkable 5 million plays on YouTube within a mere 5 days...

As one of Southern rap's underground kings via Atlanta Soul Food pioneers Goodie Mob, Thomas DeCarlo Callaway thumped strange fruit atop hip-hop's house of thugs. Church rang the cannon ball MC's big brass bells, and by 2002's Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections, the 5-square-foot force of nature already spazzed a straighter, narrower path that dead-ended on Cee-Lo Green ... Is the Soul Machine two years later. Neither predicted Gnarls Barkley...

The biggest fault with The Lady Killer is its viral sensation, the track "Fuck You." It is an effervescent, light-spirited Motown-styled pop song that needs to have it's mouth washed out with soap. So many other records should have it so good. The rest of The Lady Killer has virtually no profanity attached, but more important, it is filled with songs that actually top its high-profile anchor track...
