After bassist Jim LaMarca left the band in 2010, followed by rhythm guitarist Matt DeVries, lead guitarist Rob Arnold and drummer Andols Herrick in 2011, Chimaira fans believed the Cleveland groove / metalcore band had seen its end. This was not the case, as Mark Hunter's hunger and desire to keep the band alive resulted in The Age of Hell, a 3-man effort which involved the recruitment of their producer and former Switched vocalist Ben Schigel as temporary drummer (Rob Arnold recorded guitar...

Goto commentsLeave a commentTweetShare Phantom Lored Since 2001, Ohio's Chimaira has released six albums under several labels, including Roadrunner and Nuclear Blast. They are well known for their extreme sound, which includes aggressive vocals, heavy guitars and powerful drums. Their style is best categorized as metalcore, mixed in with groove metal...

3/5Sporting a new lineup that includes much of Atlanta chuggers Dååth, Chimaira have returned with a seventh full-length--to mixed results. While Crown of Phantoms features much of the band's signature stomp-and-strangle aggression, and some especially scathing lyrics from frontman Mark Hunter, the loss of former guitarist Rob Arnold (to Six Feet Under, no less) is felt, leaving Cleveland's finest sounding slightly less cutthroat than they have on past releases...

Sound: Chimaira's 3rd release is a wall of noise from start to finish. The crushing breakdowns, blazing guitar solos, amazing drumming and intense screams leave you playing the CD over and over again. They have progressed better and more than most other bands out there. Their music has only gotten more technical and more intense. There are few guitar duos around that could continuously write music so catchy but remain so brutal...

Sound: Anger was probably an essential emotion that drove the making of the latest Chimaira record, particularly considering this was the first release since being dropped from Roadrunner Records back in 2006. Resurrection has a lot going for it aside from the passion, with guitarist Rob Arnold supplying some incredible riffs along the way. While it never breaks that much new ground in the general metal scene, the band has still succeeded in adding in some unusual styles into their songs...

Sound: I think that Chimaira's Pass Out OF Exixtance is one of the best metal albums ever. I think it has a good distortion and an all around killer tone. It is hard to find but if you can find it you will love the sound if you are a metal head. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: I think that Mark Hunter and Rob Arnold might possibly be the best metal combination ever. I think that the lyrics flow excellent with the song...

Sound: Imagine Fear Factory in a fight with Slayer. That is what this album sounds like. It is full of heavy-as-f--k detuned riffs and some awesome vocals from Mark Hunter. Chris Spicuzza lends a lot to the album, with some really excellent effects on almost every song, and excellent musicianship all round. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics aren't too bad, but some are quite poor (e.g. 'You Are A Pig And You Should Die...' The Dehumanizing Process) but overall they suffice...

Sound: Chimaira is a band I only recently got into (we're talking this year), but it's proven very addictive and I'm working on collecting all of their albums. I find that each one I get seems to surpass the last one, and I've currently been going backwards trying to find their older releases. So while browsing through CD's at my local Best Buy, I was shocked to see a Chimaira CD staring me in the face with a cover I had never seen before. I turn the disc over and sure enough: It's a new album...

Sound: The Infection is an efficient album. Opening with an ominous, semi-epic instrumental the passage, the album aims and fires without much apprehension. With 10 tracks, the guarantee of "all killer, no filler" is one that can easily be made. Cleveland's Chimaira have always knocked on the door of mainsteam metal success that has been opened by the likes of Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God and As I Lay Dying, but the six-piece has never fully entered the room and crashed the party...
