All Reviews Chiodos - Devil March 28, 2014 by Jason Pettigrew Released:April 01, 2014 - DRK/LGHTRazor & Tie AP Rating: Chiodos frontman Craig Owens emphatically told AP that in no way was Devil intended to be the "true" follow-up to the band's benchmark release, 2007's Bone Palace Ballet. He's right, because on Devil, Chiodos aren't settling for anything less than world domination...

Devil is more than just Chiodos' first album in seven years to feature Craig Owens behind the mic again - it's a "prove it" type album for Owens, Bradley Bell, and the rest of the band. It seems kind of weird that the future of the band that has sold hundreds of thousands of records could be determined by this album, but here we are - Devil is the band's renewed opportunity at the scene domination they left behind in 2009...

Chiodos frontman Craig Owens emphatically told AP that in no way was Devil intended to be the "true" follow-up to the band's benchmark release, 2007's Bone Palace Ballet. He's right, because on Devil, Chiodos aren't settling for anything less than world domination. Producer Dave Bottrill has molded Chiodos' vision into a cohesive arc of power, finesse, quirks and accessibility in equal measures...

It has been a long time coming but the "real" Chiodos is finally back! When I say "real" I don't mean that the band was fictitious or imaginary at any point, but it may as well have been. Without Craig Owens on vocal duties for the last record the band was seemingly different and a strange dynamic was at play...

Sound: Warped Tour connoisseurs are no strangers to change. Out of every genre, they lose and replace more personnel, almost to the point that it's natural and if they haven't incorporated a new singer and drummer into the band, they are not a band. In some particular cases, a group strives off the new energy, kicking and screaming their way to a new found glory, that is until they crash and burn every last piece of their existence. In other cases, you have a band like Chiodos...

Sound: Awesome. That's all I can say about this album. It combines metal and emo and every cool ass element of music. The sound of this album is amazing. The guitars are great and the melodies of every song are extremely catchy. A must have for anyone. Trust me. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The vocalist is badass. He has a high pitched voice but it's unlike anything you've ever heard. Think a mix of Coheed and Mars Volta's vocalist but in a sense better than both...

Sound: If I could describe this new album from Chiodos in two words, they would be brutally beautiful. Simply put, that is exactly what this album is. For those who don't know who Chiodos are, they are a post-hardcore band from Michigan. Two years ago, they released their Equal Vision Records debut, "All's Well That Ends Well". The album exploded onto the scene as people heard the sound of the band, combining high pitched vocals, heavy screams, and thrashing guitars...

Release Date: October 5, 2010 For countless bands, losing a singer has been a devastating hit to their popularity and ability to continue making music that got them to where they wanted to be. In most cases, a singer is the face of the band, image and music-wise. A singer is a listener's first impression of a band...

Fans seemed dejected and detractors rejoiced when Chiodos parted ways with frontman Craig Owens. The enigmatic singer and his signature high pitch were a large part of the band's ambitious post-hardcore sound, replete with proggy guitars, orchestral tinges and an overall heavy sense of theater. With Owens moving on to scene supergroup D.R.U.G.S., it's probably for the better...
