Darius Rucker Reviews

With "Wagon Wheel" becoming the fastest-selling, fastest-rising and biggest hit of his career to date, the timing was definitely right for Darius Rucker to release his third Country Music album True Believers in May of 2013. Released via UMG Nashville's Capitol Nashville label, True Believers is loaded with twelve (12) tracks, ten of which were co-written by Darius himself ("Wagon Wheel" and "Love Without You" are the two songs he didn't write)...

If nothing else there's volume here, with 13 songs. "Southern State of Mind," by Rucker with Ashley Gorley and Chris DuBois, is a great observation about how folks in other geographic areas view Southern manners and tradition. "Whiskey and You," by Rucker and Rogers, may be the closest thing to a "real country" song on the record, with steel, fiddle and a succinct chorus about heartbreak and alcohol that we've heard a million times but still works very well...

For most UK music fans, Hootie & The Blowfish were just another of those here one minute, gone the next rock bands from across the pond. It may surprise you to know that their debut album sold 16 million copies and for a time in the nineties they were one of the biggest rock bands in the States. When Hootie were put on hold by main man Darius Rucker, no one quite expected the African American to crop up a couple of years later at the top of the US Country charts...

Before he became the first African American to top the US country charts since Charlie Pride in 1983, was best known as the voice of , the bizarrely-named rockers whose 1994 debut album sold a staggering 16 million copies. Rucker's decision to launch a full-time solo career in 2008 has meant a hiatus for them, but continued success for Rucker, who as a child of South Carolina, says he'd always felt frustrated with not being able to pursue a more country sound...

Darius Rucker successfully reinvented himself a few ago from a pop singer and leader of Hootie & the Blowfish to a solo country singer. That's no easy feat given that other mainstream artists like Jessica Simpson tried to make the transition and failed miserably. "Learn to Live" scored him three No. 1 hits and he was named, without the slightest trace of irony, as the CMA Awards' top new artist last year. He stays the course on his second Capitol Nashville album, "Charleston, S.C...

The first thing to notice about Darius Rucker's first country album is how great the music sounds. Frank Rogers, the guy behind the boards of Brad Paisley and Josh Turner's albums (among others), teamed with Rucker to craft the album and, like the Hootie & The Blowfish records Darius fronted, the band behind the voice simply sparkles and is allowed to shine...

Darius' first Capitol Nashville album Learn To Live surpassed any expectations most fans may have had for the man best known as "Hootie" from Hootie and the Blowfish, the bar band from South Carolina that went on to sell 16+ million copies of Cracked Rear-View in the mid 1990s...

Frontman for '90s pop sensation Hootie & The Blowfish, Darius Rucker is accustomed to taking a beating from the media. The man, commonly and wrongly referred to as "Hootie," is a singer with soul. If you couldn't tell by Hootie & The Blowfish's delivery of Springsteen-toned pop rock tunes, then Rucker brings it home on this, Back To Then, his first solo disc. It's, essentially a soul, R&B; (with hints of pop rock) disc, and it's a bit of a surprise...

Nashville has seen no shortage of washed-up adult contemporary stars trying to "go country" over the last few years, but none of them have been able to pull off the transition as well as Darius Rucker...
