Dashboard Confessional Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Sound: The rebellious indie sounds of Chris Carrabba's second LP, "The places you have come to fear the most", are crisp and full. And though the album did not spur any huge hits, it did establish Chris' status as a solo artist. With the help of a board of excellent guitarists, drummers, and bassits, Chris was able to compile a collection of songs that hit you somewhere deep in the heart...

Sound: Just for the record, Dashboard Confessional is in my personal oppinion the best band in thier genre. So Impossible may have been an EP, but it left a huge impact. "For You to Notice..." was a very well complexed sound. The sound of the guitar and Chris Carrabba's voice was completely incredible. It really brought out the point of an real emo person. The second song "So Impossible" is pretty good...

Sound: This is without question one of the best live performances of any band to set foot on the TRL stage. Dashboard really had their act together for this one. The sound was excelent and in 5.1 surround makes it so much better. Dashboard Confessional is mostly an acoustic band anyway (that's probably why they made the transition to Unplugged so well) the guitar is so crisp sounding probably cuz he's playing a Gibson and it would sound good if you recorded it on an 8 track tape...

Sound: I think arpeggiating chord progressions is a great way to get to know the fretboard better. The chords can be just triad voicings, but of course the whole thing gets way more interesting (my opinion!) and also trickier if you take four or more notes per voicing. I made up an arpeggio etude over a very common jazz progression...

Sound: A vocalist can often make or break a band, particularly considering that he or she is the person delivering the most personal aspects of a song -- the words. And when a singer is able to emote in ways that immediately connect with the audience, well, then you are likely to have fans hanging on every line you sing. Such is the case with Dashboard Confessional's lead singer/guitarist/pianist Chris Carrabba...

Sound: Dashboard has a very unique acoustic sound. Most of the songs get their drive from the acoustic guitar. The strumming gives the songs good percussion and helps add to the lyrics and the meaning. If you liked Dashboard's last album, then you will enjoy this too, because this is very similar. Overall the sound is excellent, but I would have maybe liked a few more songs, its a pretty short cd without the 2 bonus songs. But all of the songs on the cd were very good...

Sound: With the Shade of Poison Trees, Chris Carrabba works his magic again. This time around the sound of the album returns more to Dashboard Confessional's earlier sound working with more acoustic sounds, but it does incorparate Scott Schoenbeck John Lefler and Mike Marsh as it has in earlier albums. TIf Dusk and Summer and The Places That You Have Come to Fear the Most had a child it would be The Shade of Poison Trees...

Before I get into the meat of this review, I have to disclose my history with Dashboard Confessional. Like many twenty-something American males, at some time during middle and high school I developed an unhealthy relationship with Chris Carrabba in which I felt he knew what I was going through, could help me with any problem, that kind of thing...

Dashboard Confessional has always been one of those bands that has divided people, some call them 'sappy emo crap', whilst others 'beautiful mesmerizing music'. Nevertheless it can not be argued Chris Carrabba knows how to write a good song. Over the last few years Carrabba and company have transformed from a soft, underground "emo" group to mainstream rock radio juggernaut...
