2005 reissue. "We proudly bring you which is, surely, one of the best albums out of the vast output of this top Puerto Rico outfit. A collection of guarachas, sones and boogaloos capable to move even the most stiff-necked amongst you. Led by pianist Rafael Ithier (previously heard on Cortijo Y Su Combo) they go on to perform a great selection with some outstanding Latin soul sounds: 'Gran Combo's Boogaloo,' 'Clap Your Hands,' 'Shake It Baby,' 'Combolu'.....

El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico has a long history in Salsa Music. I consider the album 'Sin Salsa No Hay Paraiso' ('There Is No Paradise Without Salsa') to be a true jewel in the crown of the legendary Salsa Band. Alfa Recording Studio in Puerto Rico brought out this album containing songs with heart-warming Mambo riffs, which are rising in popularity on Salsa dance floors all around the globe...

In the late '80s, this was El Gran Combo's attempt to cash in on the romantic craze that was the newest flavor for salsa, but they manage to maintain their well-known band style. Regardless of its sameness, this record is as perfectly suitable as anything that they have their hands in. "Carta al Creador" is a particularly amusing tune about human dissatisfaction. As usual, El Gran Combo's energy is as contagious as ever.

This was El Gran Combo's highly heralded return to Combo Records; however, this is just another one that continues to explore the same territory that was left behind during their three-year hiatus from the New York label. "Que Me lo Den en Vida" is the only cut that was somewhat redeemed by the airwaves, as opposed to the rest of the repertoire.

This production was somewhat ignored by the media upon its release; no novelty here, since the group does not deviate from their highly identifiable sound in favor of continued acceptance. "Te Deseo" received publicity, but a return to the days of yore ("Jala Jala") is more a curiosity than an update. For die-hard El Gran Combo fans.
