Emmure Reviews

Emmure's new full-length Eternal Enemies has come under a lot of media fire, especially for an album that sounds like a continuation of the nu-metal/rap rock bands that were big in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The perfect example of this comparison is the song "Nemesis." The guitars are loud and heavy and the drums are insanely fast, all fairly good parts of the song until we get to the vocals. The vocalist takes it upon himself to perform three very different parts...

Anyone who has listened to at least two of Emmure's previous albums probably won't want to read a four paragraph review of their sixth LP 'Eternal Enemies'... They just need a few questions answered to know all that they need to. So, for the benefit of the majority, here's a quick Q&A; rundown: (1) Is it the usual half an hour's worth? Unfortunately not, since its 15 tracks clock in at 45 minutes. (2) Which of their previous albums is this most similar to? 'Felony'...

"Nobody was more surprised than me to realize that 'Slave to the Game' is actually an Emmure album that's listenable from beginning to end." Emmure was always a guilty pleasure at best and truly deserved all the negative press thrown their way for any number of reasons...

Sound: This album gets such a bad review, I thought that with my side I could offer something to think about. Of course I shall warn off Emmure haters from this point on cause you're just going to end up more pissed off. Also as an Emmure fan I try to be as objective as possible, and I could start off by saying as they say this is the worst of their albums, I think is the best, and I might criticise other works heavily. Here is my explanation...

Sound: Growth isn't a term many would ever associate with Emmure, a band most commonly looked upon as a poor man's Acacia Strain. Yet, their fifth Victory album, "Slave To The Game", shows considerable growth for the breakdown addicted gents. No, they haven't abandoned the breakdowns, odd guitar effects, or demented vocals, but they make damn good use of all these qualities. The guitar approach this time is far more interesting, opting for Deftones-esque effects and leads over straight chugs...

The nu-metal phase of the early '00s left a bad taste in most people's mouths. There are a number of reasons most refer to that period and genre ? if it can even really be considered a sub-genre ? disparagingly, but the most well-known is likely the combination of rap and metal. For a few years, acts like Limp Bizkit pretty much blew it for anyone who wanted to play heavy riffs and throw in some rhymes...

Sound: As far as metalcore fans are concerned, a lot of you would probably consider this album to be 2007's Holy Grail of metalcore. I know a lot of people associate Victory Records with shitty pop-punk, emo bands like Hawthorne Heights and such, but these guys prove that it isn't an entirely bad label (also, The Tossers are signed with Victory). Anyway, the album's sound brings to mind three great bands: The Acacia Strain, Elysia, and a little Every Time I Die (as heard on Hot Damn)...

Release Date: February 15, 2011 Emmure are a five-piece hardcore band that formed in 2003 and quickly attracted a devoted fanbase due to their pummeling style of music and brutal live shows. Their 2007 debut, Goodbye to the Gallows, was met with enthusiasm in the hardcore scene for its violent and in-your-face breakdowns and screaming, but subsequent releases failed to evolve and were generally panned by critics for their unoriginal musicianship...

Trying to find another reason to hate deathcore? Then look no further than Emmureâ??s Felony. There is little creativity or actual talent in this release, much like the rest of this damned scene. To top it all off, Emmureâ??s vocalist Frankie Palmeri decided he wanted to experiment with clean singing, yet try to maintain the tough guy image. The problem is he comes across as Fred Durstâ??s fluffer and makes you laugh to no ends with his Jesse Pinkman drawl...
