Eric Benet could go on to win 10 Grammys, save a boatload of drowning children and win the Nobel Peace Prize, but to most people, he will forever live in infamy as the guy who cheated on Halle Berry during the period when the actress was at her Oscar-winning peak. Because of this fact, some people may never give Benet's music a chance, even though he certainly isn't the first and won't be the last philandering musician...

Man on a mission: Eric Benét sings every note as if it's his last Poor Eric Benét. He makes music, but people want answers: How do you fuck up a marriage to Halle Berry? So on his third album, Benét tries hard to establish himself as a sincere singer, as opposed to a philandering ex-husband. With Benet's last single release still riding high at number 6 in the Urban Chart, the album arrives hot on its heels. This is an appropriately polished package with collaborations from Wclef Jean, DuPlaix and George Nash Jr amongst the collaborators. Fans of the single won't be disappointed. JP

"I've been away too long a while," sings Eric Benét on his first album in sixyears. Happily, Hurricane finds him making a strong comeback. Opener "BeMyself Again" is a bluesy, Ben Harper-ish number, but from there it'sbittersweet R&B;, loaded with lyrics evoking his tabloid-ravaged marriageto actress Halle Berry, which ended earlier this year. More downbeatthan past efforts, but Benét's Wonder-ful voice ensures that somesunshine breaks through.

"Sounds like Karaoke." That was the three word description I received last month from a music industry friend who heard an advance copy of Eric Benet's new Japan-only release, From E to U, Vol. 1 . I can't get away with a review that short, but I don't think anything I say will be more illuminating. There is a common belief among music executives that Asian audiences will, sight unseen, buy "covers" albums of familiar songs performed by familiar American artists...
