There was a time about five years ago when I woke up one morning and said to myself, "You know what? I am not sure I really need to listen to modern death metal anymore. And come to think of it, hyper-technical death metal is more of a sport than an art form, and it gets tedious within about five minutes". These are the things I think about early in the morning. The melancholy and crushingly brutal fact of the matter is that there is a lot of boring, unimaginative death metal out there...

Exhumed's 2011 comeback album, All Guts, No Glory made it clear that California death metallers still had plenty of curdled piss and vinegar left, and now, with Necrocracy, the self-styled progenitors of gore metal have proven that there's no such thing as aging gracefully. They're still the same morbid blood freaks that released classics like Slaughtercult, Gore Metal, and the most perverse Led Zeppelin cover in existence, but as this new record shows, they've loosened up a little in their...

Tweet Gore Soufflé If you claim to be a fan of any type of extreme metal (death, grind, black, blackened-death, etc.) and you haven't heard Exhumed's 1998 masterpiece Gore Metal, then you're really missing out on a pretty important part of the metal puzzle coming into the 2000s. It had that erratic and sloppy early Florida death sound with a bit of oldschool English grind that really had a certain magic to it...

Two years ago, contemporary gore-grind legends Exhumed returned after an eight-year silence with a killer comeback disc, . Now they're back again (with main man Matt Harvey and a completely different line-up) with , and you just know it's going to shred -- and it does. Exhumed always did the second-gen Carcass thing better than anyone else, creating tunes that stick like the raw, bloodied slabs of metallic meat they are -- the chorus of "The Matter of Splatter" getting stuck in my head at...

Legendary Californian deathgrindin' butchers Exhumed have recently been unearthed and rudely awakened from their near decade-long slumber. Now they present to the world their latest and fourth full-length sonic massacre, featuring their first batch of original material since 2003's Anatomy Is Destiny...

3.5/5 Somewhere between death metal going progressive and grindcore going political, the metal world lost their grip on gore metal. At one time, this murky extreme-metal subgenre ruled the underground, and only the coolest (and fattest) misanthropes rocked obscene medical photographs on their oversized T-shirts. But thankfully, through constant line-up changes and multiple hiatuses, Exhumed never forgot...

"'All Guts, No Glory' is utterly revolting in all the right ways, but doesn't just sit back and rely on disgust. The songs are tight and structured, with no lag or filler." If you ever find yourself losing faith in death metal, thinking that something you once devoted your black t-shirt clad existence to has been taken over by a bunch of swoop haircut-sporting, skinny jeans wearing, ironic mustache growing pre-teen wastes of DNA, look to the old schoolers. They will show you the way...

Sound: Exhumed have always been one of my absolute favourite metal bands of all time. I first heard heard them in probably 2006, and the first track I heard was "The Matter of Splatter" off of the "Anatomy is Destiny" album. I then checked this album out, and I became hooked. This whole CD is pure death metal start to finish. The riffs are fast and brutal and the drumming is pretty wicked...
