Four Tet Concert Tickets

Four Tet is the name used by Kieran Hebden (born 1980 in Putney, London, UK) for his experimental electronic music-oriented solo efforts, to differentiate from his work with post-rock band Fridge. Hebden's solo work typically utilises samples lifted from various sources including hip-hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk mixed with his own guitar playing. Four Tet shares some stylistic similarities with other musicians, such as Prefuse 73, who use computer editing techniques that give the music a staccato, cut-up feel. Four Tet Reviews

The eternal trouble with creating the instrumental downtempo album is figuring out how pretty can something be before it just slips away. Until its tracks are lost amongst "study music" playlists. Consider DJ Shadow, who's 1996 masterwork was plenty pretty when it wanted to be but also caked in nervy dread, its tracks soundtracking imaginary opening credits to thriller movies...

Kieran Hebden's been in a reflective mood of late, perhaps triggered by the fact that the benchmark Four Tet album Rounds turned 10 years old last year. Among the collection of archival material suddenly made available has been a stream of a 1999 mix for Gilles Peterson's BBC radio show, a big data dump of remix work, and the 0181 collection spanning 1997-2001...

In an age when almost every new release is mercilessly marketed with gimmicks, the release of Kieran Hebden's seventh studio album as Four Tet was billed by the man himself as intentionally low key. "No pre order, no YouTube trailers, no iTunes stream, no Spotify, no Amazon deal, no charts, no bit coin deal, no last minute Rick Rubin" claimed his twitter account, perhaps inadvertently creating an entirely new field of promotion: the anti-hype...

If London's alternative music scene were anthropomorphized, there is every chance that it would look like Kieran Hebden. A scruffy, bookish-looking guy in his mid-30s, based in the trendy Shoreditch/Daltson East End of England's capital city, creating danceable but distinctly under the radar music that appeals--broadly speaking--to the major cities' liberal intelligentsia. His brand of dubstep, along with that of his contemporary Burial, feels like it's at the forefront of progressive music...

By now it's difficult to trace the Kieran Hebden of "Pyramid" or "Peace For Earth" back to the mellow, hip-hop-influenced electronica of records like Pause or Rounds. In the last five or six years, Hebden has become devoted entirely to dance music, establishing himself as one of the UK's most in-demand and adventurous DJs. Whether through recorded mixes like 2011's FabricLive...

October 18, 2013 Kieran Hebden makes electronic-dance tracks for cosmic states of mind. Beautiful Rewind, the U.K. native's seventh LP as Four Tet, mixes club-ready rhythms with touches of brain-melt psychedelia: "Gong" opens with rumbling drums and shaky metallic clangs active beneath alien-vocal coos, as if lifted from a ritual by some deep-space tribe...

Brows were furrowed and lips pursed when "Kool FM", the advance single from Four Tet's Beautiful Rewind, was released. Gutty and tuff, "Kool FM" appropriated the name of a legendary pirate radio station that existed during the rave and jungle era, abstracting that era's chopter rhythms and throaty MCs. Kieran Hebden has developed a bit of a johnny-come-lately reputation among certain observers, though, his plunges into UK bass music viewed as harmless and well meaning but perhaps a bit awkward...
