You realize about five seconds into Go Down In History that Four Year Strong, the Worcester, MA-based quartet that exemplified the best parts of pop-punk's "easy-core" subset with its first two full-length releases, has completely and unabashedly returned to form...

Four Year Strong fans will breathe a collective sigh of relief when they get their mitts on Go Down In History, the latest from the Worcester, Massachusetts, popcore beard-punks since 2011's lukewarm arena-rock experiment, In Some Way, Shape Or Form. Seconds into the chugging onslaught that announces opening track "What's In The Box?" the message is clear: The FYS who blew the roof off the scene with 2007's Rise Or Die Trying and 2010's Enemy Of The World are back, with a vengeance...

Sound: Four Year Strong, from Worcester Massachusetts are best described by their fans as "pop mosh" or "bubblegum hardcore". Blending elements of modern Hardcore and Pop Punk to create a sound that they state as "exactly what they want to hear." Noteable influences include: New Found Glory, the Gorilla Biscuits and Saves the Day. Which can be heard all throughout their newest release "Rise or Die Trying"...

Sound: This is probably going to be very biased being that they are my favorite band but this album differs greatly from their last two studio albums; a lot more guitar and vocal work with a lot less on the drums which is huge downfall to me personally but they have totally changed their sound. If you have heard the last two albums; "Rise Or Die Trying" and "Enemy Of The World"; I will say that it is a lot more on the "hard rock" side rather than the hardcore/punk style of their past...

This review originally ran in AP 281. "We've said it before, and we'll say it again," holler the members of Four Year Strong in a powerful gang vocal, "Rise or die trying." That lyric, from the punky "Fairweather Fan," has been FYS' motto for years, as well as the title of their 2007 breakthrough album. It's also their way of saying, "Either you're with us or you're against us...

"We live in a time bomb that's ticking down" begins the lead single "Just Drive" off Four Year Strong's fourth album (and second in 18 months) In Some Way, Shape, Or Form and it can easily be seen as a comment on the lifespan of hardcore (emo-core, whatever you want to call it) bands as it could be seen as anything else. Glassjaw disappeared for half a decade, and Brand New and Thrice never lived up to the worlds of both commercial and creative potential behind their initial albums...
