Reissuing Small Victories was a big plus for me as a fan of Frameworks because it gave me time to address something (I'd call it minor conflict and healthy debate) I ran into with fans of the Gainesville posse. Loom earlier this year stood out to me, and still does, as one of the most brutal and powerful records that 2014 may well see. However, a lot of their followers stuck to their guns that it wasn't as good as this release in 2013...

Split between shrieking intensity and highly-charged melodic urges, Frameworks are in many ways operating outside of your typical Topshelf act. The Gainsville, Florida quintet are stringent emocore enthusiasts, a quality they share with the much-revered Boston label, though it's in how they're stretching into other stylistic realms whilst keeping that trait in check that they instantly stand out even with a cursory listen...

I love it when a band comes at you with a bold, daring, zero-fucks-given attitude. Frameworks is just that. With Gainesville churning out pop-punk, indie and emo acts, it's a nice slap in the face for what Loom does. It incorporates elements of post-hardcore and screamo/skramz together, promoting Frameworks' own brand of melody-driven hardcore that's as chilling and destitute as can be, but so powerful and dramatic in their own noisy way...

Some could argue that this style of emo/post-hardcore/"the wave" is starting to be over saturated by a multitude of bands trying to be the next Touché Amoré or Pianos Become The Teeth. But it's hard to take that argument seriously when an up-and-coming band like Frameworks puts out a record that's as stunning as Loom, the Gainesville, Florida, quartet's Topshelf Records' debut...

Release Date: February 12, 2013 Hailing from good old Gainesville, Florida, Frameworks plays post-hardcore to the tune of frantic guitars and cathartic vocals with some impressive musicianship woven in. It's not a formula that is totally new, but as they bring some textures a la Touche Amore and even The Blood Brothers, there's a sense of urgency and a complete lack of bullshit tactics to pad the songwriting...
