It’s shaping up to be a stellar year for celebrated New Orleans outfit Galactic. In 2010 the band released their groundbreaking new album Ya-Ka-May a visionary mix, intertwining New Orleans sounds from jazz to brass band to funk to bounce and far beyond. With this release, the five-man group comprised of drummer Stanton Moore, bassist Robert Mercurio, saxophonist/harmonica player Ben Ellman, keyboardist Richard Vogel, and guitarist Jeff Raines – reaffirms their status as the quintessential modern day New Orleans band and one of the funkiest outfits in the known universe. There's a scene in the excellent HBO show Treme where Steve Zahn's character based on Davis Rogan exasperatedly asks Kermit Ruffin's "All you want to do is get high, play some trumpet and barbecue in New Orleans your whole damn life?" Kermit responds "That'll work." Galactic has taken that scene to musical heart with their latest group efforts, shining a special spotlight on their beloved New Orleans like only they can...

Sound: The very first song I heard by Galactic (well, I should while say being consciously aware that I was listening to Galactic) came from this album. It's not their first album, and it's not like any other ones they've done. The second I heard the first few seconds of "Heart of Steel" I knew I was onto something. On this album, unlike all of their others, they collaborated with other artists from New Orleans contributing vocals and instrumental backing on some...

Galactic's musical path has seen them transition from purely making organic, Louisiana-flavoured funk to a harmonious gumbo of jazz, electronic and hip-hop. Oddly enough, in the 18 odd years of their existence, the New Orleans-based instrumental funk sextet had never released a Mardi Gras-themed project, until now. "We're obviously from New Orleans, where Mardi Gras is extremely prevalent...

Anti- Carnivale Electricos is an ambitious, frenetic expression of a wildly talented band's tireless sense of musical and cultural wanderlust. Setting out with an eager sense of thematic inspiration and a star-studded bunch of friends who worked for New Orleans' finest rhythm section on the MC-heavy From the Corner to the Block and 2010's Ya-Ka-May, this time, the experiment goes global to deliver the group's most unique and challenging record to date...

This New Orleans band's latest album is an explosive set of red-hot party funk evoking the live-wire electricity and celebratory spirit of Mardi Gras with a raw, aggressive blend of funk-rock, jazz, hip hop, zydeco, soul, Brazilian samba and more with help from special guests ranging from soul singers Cyril and Ivan Neville and rappers Mystikal and Mannie Fresh to New Orleans carnival vets, Brazilian musicians and even a high-school marching band.

This New Orleans jazz-funk band recruited an impressive lineup of rappers and other special guests for their latest album, including Lyrics Born, Mr. Lif, Chali 2na, Lateef the Truth Speaker, Boots Riley, the Gift of Gab, Ladybug Mecca and Juvenile. The songs are kept tight, the grooves are wicked, and by and large the rappers fit the songs like a glove. A surprisingly successful collaboration that's also Galactic's strongest album to date.

Recorded live at the legendary Tipitina's nightclub in their home base of New Orleans, LA, The Other Side of Midnight affirms the new plateau that Galactic attained with last year's Ya-Ka-May. More to the point, this is a scorching, "all-killer, no-filler" live set...
