With the advent of romantic salsa, the arrangements seemed to be playing second fiddle to the aggressive arrangements that had made '70s salsa notorious. Apparently, Gilberto Santa Rosa preferred the romantic, tasteful material -- but slower-paced charts. This album was well received by salsa fans, who at the time were immersed in the syrupy, overly romantic, watered-down styles that were highly popular at the time...

In his effort for the multinational label CBS Discos, Gilberto Santa Rosa came into his own, combining romantic and traditional salsa trends with excellent results. This very danceable recording helped Santa Rosa to gain great public appeal in the very early '90s; Jorge Luis Piloto's "No Me Dejes Solo" is a bomba that adds a breath of fresh air to the proceedings. Punto de Vista is Alex d'Castro's last recording with the orchestra before he embarked on a solo career.

Gilberto Santa Rosa continues with more fireworks in another diverse production. Not as eclectic as the preceding Esencia, and more inclined toward his familiar romantic style, but an interesting effort nonetheless. A treat for Santa Rosaphiles.

On Perspectiva, Gilberto Santa Rosa continues the level of excellence that made Punto de Vista a success: romantic (not erotic) salsa done to a swinging turn. Omar Alfanno's "Conciencia" is one of his most adroit compositions. A must-have for Santa Rosa's fans.
