Sound: Guns N' Roses seems to be a factory with its members producing fairly good rock solo albums one after another. And here's another one to prove the theory -- Gilby Clarke's self-titled album. But don't be fooled by the record being self-titled. It's far not the first album by Clarke, it's just his way of avoiding the pompous "greatest hits." The CD is 14 tracks of raw (and not so raw) rock 'n' roll, carefully picked by Clarke from his 6 albums...

Sound: The sound of this varies heavily from the slightly harder style of rock, to some fun bluesey riff's comming straight from your speakers. Gilby had created a lot of catchy and unique styles on this album. I really find no problems with other then a couple songs there is a sence of reptition if you listen to it long enough, that is only on terms of being picky. If you can appreciate the style, then you'll love the what's comming from Gilby's solo stuff...

Sound: This record really reminds me of good time rock and roll. It's not full of sing-along chorus' or 3 minutes solos, but what comes across instead is that Gilby Clarke is clearly a talented guitar player and he has a great ear for a good melody. The reason I bought this album was because it was by "the guy from GN'R" (it actually had a sticker saying that on the front), but after listening to track 1, "Kilroy Was Here" I realised he was more than that...

Guitarist Gilby Clarke always seems to have a knack for working with hard rock's renowned names, and his 1999 in-concert release, the appropriately titled 99 Live, is no different. Joining Clarke (who also doubles as lead vocalist) on this night in Hollywood, CA, was ex-L.A. Guns lead guitarist Tracii Guns and on-again/off-again Kiss drummer Eric Singer...

More important than his years in the Guns N' Roses touring band are Gilby Clarke's days as a guitarist for Kills for Thrills. It was these years in the Los Angeles rock scene that exposed Clarke to the sort of influences that he displays on Swag, his fourth original studio album. The music here evokes all sorts of bands from that scene, from the hedonistic swagger of Faster Pussycat to the clever pop/rock of European imports Hanoi Rocks to the punk-influenced pop of Dramarama...
